Graduate Software Engineer | £45,000 - £50,000

Jump into a hands-on graduate role where you'll build, automate and operate highly available systems using modern tooling like Python, Docker, Kubernetes and Ansible. You’ll learn core site reliability and DevOps practices—monitoring with Prometheus/Grafana, streaming with Kafka, and deploying on Ubuntu-based infrastructure—while being mentored by experienced engineers.
The Role
We're working with a fast-growing cloud-native infrastructure scale-up on this exciting opportunity.
Jump into a hands-on graduate role where you'll build, automate and operate highly available systems using modern tooling like Python, Docker, Kubernetes and Ansible. You’ll learn core site reliability and DevOps practices—monitoring with Prometheus/Grafana, streaming with Kafka, and deploying on Ubuntu-based infrastructure—while being mentored by experienced engineers.
The Role
- Automate and improve DevOps workflows using Python, Ansible and CI/CD pipelines (Git, GitHub Actions or similar)
- Monitor systems and respond to incidents with Prometheus, Grafana and structured alerting
- Troubleshoot Linux/UNIX infrastructure, container issues (Docker, LXC/LXD) and Kubernetes clusters
- Support secure, scalable deployments and collaborate on rollout strategies for high-availability services (Kubernetes, container orchestration)
- Perform root cause analysis on outages, document fixes and strengthen reliability across the stack
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar (strong academic record; Russell Group graduates encouraged)
- Practical experience coding in Python or another object-oriented language and writing automation scripts
- Solid Linux/UNIX fundamentals and hands-on familiarity with Docker and container tooling (LXC/LXD knowledge a plus)
- Exposure or strong interest in Kubernetes, Ansible, CI/CD concepts, and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Curious, proactive problem-solver who can work independently and pair with developers and SREs
- Competitive salary £45,000–£50,000 and clear career progression into SRE/Platform or Backend roles
