SENIOR BACK END PYTHON ENGINEER

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Back End Python Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Ukraine. Our client is a global developer of technology platforms that develop temperature control products.

You'll build the data movement, service orchestration, and application-processing backbone for an AI-enabled operational monitoring platform focused on connected cold-chain shipping. This role will be central to how telemetry data, shipment data, carrier inputs, exception workflows, and downstream analytics come together within a reliable, production-grade backend architecture. It is not a narrow CRUD API role. The right candidate must be able to design and implement backend systems that support ingestion, transformation, enrichment, exception detection, and operational service delivery in a telemetry-heavy environment. This person must be comfortable with Python, APIs, AWS-based data and service patterns, and the practical realities of near-real-time operational systems. The role also requires judgment, because the platform is being built in an environment where requirements are still taking shape and where strong engineers are expected to help clarify what should be built, not just wait for tickets.

Requirements

• 6+years of experience in backend engineering.
• Minimum of a bachelor's in Computer Science or a similar technology degree.
• Strong knowledge of Python for backend service development.
• Solid understanding of building production-grade REST APIs.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, relational schema design, and performance-aware data access patterns.
• Understanding of designing and implementing ETL or ELT pipelines and backend data workflows.
• Strong knowledge of AWS-based backend and data-service architectures.
• Experience working with time-series, telemetry, sensor, logistics, or event-heavy data environments.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and building resilient service-to-service interactions.
• Experience in designing reliable backend systems for production use, including testing, monitoring, and fault handling.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

• Experience with FastAPI.
• Experience with Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, or adjacent Python data tooling.
• Familiarity with anomaly detection, predictive analytics, or decision-support systems.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture patterns
• Experience in IoT, logistics, supply chain, fleet, or operational monitoring environments
• Familiarity with BI or dashboard-supporting data structures and service layers

Responsibilities

• Build backend services and APIs that support shipment monitoring, exception workflows, operational visibility, and system integrations.
• Design and implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines for telemetry, location, sensor, battery, and operational workflow data.
• Structure backend systems that support downstream analytics, decision-support workflows, and future AI/ML-driven capabilities.
• Develop reliable service patterns for integrating IoT streams, operational systems, and third-party carrier APIs.
• Support the modeling and movement of data between raw ingestion, operational processing, and application-facing services.
• Design data structures and service logic that can handle time-series and telemetry-heavy workloads.
• Partner with technical leadership, data-oriented contributors, and frontend engineers to ensure the backend supports both operational workflows and future predictive capabilities.
• Contribute to secure, testable, observable, and maintainable production systems.
• Help define service boundaries, event handling patterns, and backend architecture standards for a growing platform.
