The Role: Product Owner

What you are looking for:

  • A closely connected culture
  • A total rewards package meant to enhance your work-life flexibility
  • Fully utilizing your talent
  • Professional growth and development via challenging projects and assignments
  • Warm and fuzzy feelings knowing you have helped your community, your team, the business and social causes through the Rexall Care Network

Reporting to the Director, AI Engineering and Transformation, the Product Owner will lead the definition and delivery of new digital capabilities across Rexall's pharmacy-led digital properties. This is a greenfield role — you will be shaping products from concept through launch. You will define the product vision, roadmap, and priorities aligned with Rexall's strategic objectives, translating clinical and business requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can build against.

You will collaborate across engineering, design, pharmacy operations, marketing, compliance, and external partners to champion the voice of the patient. The team leverages modern development tools including AI-assisted workflows; comfort working in this environment and defining requirements for AI-powered features is expected.

Success in this role requires more than digital product expertise. You'll be deeply embedded in pharmacy operations — shaping how new clinical capabilities are designed, adopted, and operationalized across Rexall's pharmacy network.

Owns the product definition and delivery of Rexall's digital properties, coordinating across engineering, design, pharmacy operations, loyalty, marketing, compliance, and external partners to deliver new capabilities on fixed timelines within a regulated healthcare environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  1. Develop and maintain a product roadmap that drives the business vision and strategy, with clear sequencing of capabilities across pharmacy, front-store, loyalty, and partner experiences.
  2. Manage the product lifecycle from concept through delivery - coordinating across engineering, design, pharmacy operations, and external partners. Set priorities and ensure delivery on time and within budget.
  3. Define and maintain the product backlog, prioritizing features that align with patient needs, clinical outcomes, and business goals — including both patient-facing experiences and internal admin tools used by pharmacy and operations teams.
  4. Translate business and clinical requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria for engineering and QA teams.
  5. Collaborate with the UI/UX Designer to review and validate wireframes, user flows, and prototypes — ensuring designs meet clinical, business, and usability requirements before development begins.
  6. Support the definition of requirements for AI-powered features, collaborating with engineering to ensure quality and appropriate guardrails.
  7. Collaborate with Pharmacy Operations, Marketing, Loyalty, and external partners to identify and deliver capabilities that drive patient engagement, medication adherence, and retention. Work directly with pharmacy teams to shape operational workflows and standard operating procedures for new digital capabilities.
  8. Facilitate sprint reviews and retrospectives, helping the team improve delivery velocity and product quality.
  9. Define KPIs, build dashboards, and monitor platform performance. Use patient feedback, usage data, and market trends to inform product decisions and prioritization.
  10. Facilitate presentations, workshops, and design thinking sessions with business teams, clinical stakeholders, and senior management.
  11. Bring strong knowledge of modern web and mobile development practices to support effective planning and execution with development teams.
  12. Work with engineering and external integration partners to manage dependencies, timelines, and technical debt, ensuring scalability and stability of digital properties. Drive intake and prioritization processes with external platform teams on shared delivery timelines.
  13. Ensure compliance considerations (PHIPA, PIPEDA, PCI-DSS, AODA/WCAG) are embedded in requirements from the start, particularly when handling patient health and transaction data.
  14. Communicate product plans, status updates, and key results to stakeholders and senior leadership on a regular cadence.
  15. Support change management and internal training to ensure smooth adoption of new features by pharmacy staff, head office employees, and patients.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  1. 5–7 years of product management or product ownership experience, with at least 2 years in healthcare, retail, pharmacy, or a regulated industry where patient/customer data sensitivity is a daily consideration.
  2. College diploma or undergraduate university degree in a related discipline, or a combination of experience, education, and/or training deemed equivalent.
  3. Proven track record of shipping digital products from concept to launch. Strong knowledge of web development practices and modern platform architecture. Experience defining net-new capabilities is strongly preferred.
  4. Deep understanding of healthcare or pharmacy workflows, including comfort with clinical terminology, patient journeys, and the intersection of technology and care delivery.
  5. Strong experience writing clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can build against without ambiguity.
  6. Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence), including backlog management, sprint planning, and release coordination.
  7. Solid understanding of UX/UI principles, with the ability to collaborate with designers using tools such as Figma and Miro to validate that features meet patient expectations and accessibility standards.
  8. Experience with data-driven product development, leveraging analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude, Google Analytics) to track performance and inform prioritization.
  9. Familiarity with Canadian healthcare privacy and compliance frameworks (PHIPA, PIPEDA, AODA).
  10. Excellent communication skills with experience working cross-functionally across technical, clinical, and business teams.
  11. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing stakeholder priorities, and firm delivery timelines.
  12. Comfort working with AI-assisted tools and workflows in a product development context.
  13. Experience managing external partner relationships where technical integration is involved (e.g., API-based vendor integrations, data-sharing agreements).
  14. Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate product ROI, assess market trends, and make strategic decisions that align with business objectives.
  15. Experience in retail, pharmacy, digital health, loyalty programs, or patient-facing health platforms is a strong asset.
