Software Engineer II, Search Experience

About The Role

Search is one of the most heavily used features on Uber Eats, driving over a third of our orders. Our mission is to help eaters effortlessly find what they're craving and discover the breadth of merchants and items on our platform.

As part of the Eats Search Experience team, you'll work on building the next generation of search features that make discovery faster, more relevant, and more delightful. This role is ideal for a product-minded engineer who thrives on translating user needs into elegant technical solutions. What The Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

• Ship features end-to-end: Work with PMs, Designers, and UXR to build and launch user-facing improvements in search intent expression (e.g., filters, suggestions, guided queries) and result presentation (e.g., dish-forward layouts).
• Implement scalable services: Contribute to backend systems in Go that power millions of daily search queries.
• Experiment and iterate: Design and analyze A/B tests with Data Science to validate impact and inform product direction.
• Collaborate across functions: Partner with Ranking, Relevance, and Presentation teams to integrate new modes of search and discovery.
• Level up your craft: Write clean, reliable code, participate in code reviews, and contribute to improving team engineering foundations.
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping user-facing features.
• Proficiency in a backend language (Go, Java, Python) and experience designing APIs or services.
• Strong product intuition and curiosity about user behavior
• Strong communication skills, experience working with stakeholders including PM, Design and Data Science.
• Ability to learn new technologies and frameworks quickly
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building discovery or search-like experiences at scale.
• Exposure to multi-sided marketplaces (e.g., food delivery, e-commerce).
• Prior experience with experiment design and measurement.
• Familiarity with front-end frameworks (React or similar) or webviews is a plus.
• Experience with A/B testing and data-driven product development.
  
  

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
