About The Role

Would you like to build and lead a program of researchers focusing on how to make industrial operational technology systems safe and secure?

DNV delivers cyber security services for both IT and Operational (OT) systems, as well as integrated IT/OT systems. To further strengthen DNVs capabilities, our strategic Research will establish a dedicated new research program focusing on the future technologies and methods of cyber security in the OT and integrated IT/OT domain. We are looking for a passionate candidate to lead the program and to set the direction for future cyber security research in DNV. If you have a research background and want to have the opportunity to work in close interaction with the industry, regulators and other relevant institutions, this is a great opportunity.

Group Research and Development (GRD) performs strategic and applied research for DNV focusing on knowledge development through collaborations with academia and industry, providing thought leadership through external publications and forecasts, and creates scientific legitimacy to DNV services. GRD has 130 researchers organized into 6 research programs. We now seek the leader for the “Cyber Security” research program. This Program Director will be tasked to build the Industrial Cyber Security program that is expected to be about 10 members.

The Industrial Cyber Program Will Focus On

  • Industrial assets, critical infrastructure and high-risk systems
  • The impacts of new technology (AI, quantum, etc) and regulations in the security landscape
  • Developments of methods for safety and security under a common risk approach
  • New approaches for cyber security through new technology, new barrier principles, new design philosophies, resilient architectures, new operating models, etc.
  • Demonstrators and prototypes to test out and explore new approaches
  • Scientific publications and conferences presentations to build new knowledge and share DNV work
  • Participations in research consortiums and publicly funded projects to develop new solutions together with our partners.

The position as Program Director is located at Høvik, Norway, but other DNV locations in Europe may also be considered. The Program Director reports to the Director of Group Research and Development and will be a member of the GRD Leadership team.

About You

Position qualifications

The Program Director is expected to have a scientific background combined with a passion to lead a team of researchers. The successful candidate is curious, challenges conventional wisdom, dares to explore new approaches and finds energy in guiding the team. The candidate has preferably a strong and broad industrial experience and understanding of cyber security in industrial applications.

Responsibilities Of The Program Director

  • Overview of new technologies and approaches challenging integrity of digital assets with special focus on cyber security
  • Set strategic scientific research direction and develop plan for the program
  • Collaborate with DNV business area that delivers cyber security services
  • Collaborate with other research programs in setting the direction for safety and security of digital assets.
  • Recruitment and people management for the program
  • Engage with universities and industry for collaborations
  • Participate in research activities

Personal Qualifications

  • Master/PhD in cyber, physics, cybernetics, mathematics/statistics, or computer science (or relevant similar education)
  • Min 5 years of relevant experience with industrial cyber
  • People management experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication / presentation skills
  • Able to see the overall picture, cooperate across borders and share knowledge
  • Self-motivated and result oriented
