Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.
The Team
The Global Fixed Income Team is looking for an energetic and result-oriented Associate Software Engineer to work on development and support of Global Fixed Income Applications. The incumbent will participate in full development cycle in agile environments, and be responsible for providing responsive application support on a global basis. The successful candidate must have solid hands-on expertise in building complex real-time applications and possess a good understanding of capital markets and products. The Role
As a Developer, you’ll participate in meetings/stand ups with stakeholders to prioritize development tasks aligned with business goals, contribute to the design of new applications, and undertakes enhancements, and make recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code. This means you’ll be Involved in the full software development life cycle, responsible for designing, coding, testing, implementing and supporting application software that is delivered on time and within budget. Key to your success is showing initiative to prepare and document artefacts that are important to the team and preparing and supporting application releases intended for implementation to UAT and Production environments. This requires performing support of production trading applications to troubleshoot and quickly resolve any issues or questions and providing afterhours support via an on-call pager on a rotational basis especially for application releases during a maintenance window or for other maintenance activities

Skills
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in enterprise application development using programming languages like Java, Scala, or Python
- Unix and Windows OS experience
- Experience with Messaging Bus technologies like MQ, JMS, Solace, or Kafka
- Knowledge of design patterns and best practices
- Must be familiar within Linux/Windows and/or cloud platforms
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be a team player.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent
