Staff Platform Engineer | Melbourne (2 days onsite) | Up to $200k + Super
About the Team
This team sits at the heart of the business, building the internal platform that turns complex cloud infrastructure into a seamless, predictable experience for hundreds of application engineers. Think golden paths, self-service tooling, and developer-first design.
About the Role
We're looking for a Staff Platform Engineer to provide senior technical leadership on a small, high-impact team. You'll lead the architecture and evolution of a Kubernetes-based internal platform, build developer-facing tooling and automation, and shape how engineers across the organisation build, deploy, and run their services.
This is a hands-on leadership role, where you'll be setting platform strategy one day and writing code the next.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and optimisation of a Kubernetes-based internal developer platform
- Build and own developer-facing CLI tools, APIs, and automation that improve deployment, observability, and day-to-day workflows
- Partner with engineering teams to understand pain points and translate them into platform capabilities
- Define and champion platform standards, best practices, and modern engineering patterns across the wider organisation
- Mentor and coach engineers, contributing to both roadmap strategy and hands-on delivery
What You'll Bring
- Strong software engineering fundamentals (Golang experience highly regarded!)
- Deep Kubernetes knowledge including operators, controllers, and developer tooling
- Terraform and Helm, with solid GitOps and CI/CD experience
- Experience building self-service developer platforms at enterprise scale
- Proven technical leadership across multi-team or multi-tenant environments
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine developer-first mindset
What's On Offer
- Competitive salary + annual performance bonus
- Genuine hybrid flexibility (2 days in-office)
- 14 weeks paid primary carer's leave, 2 weeks for partners
- Additional leave purchase options and volunteer days
- A genuinely inclusive, high-performance engineering culture
Applicants must have Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship to be considered for this role.
