[About Plural]

Plural is an early-stage investment fund that backs the most ambitious founders on a mission to change the world through technology. Founded in 2022 by experienced operators turned investors, Plural was built on a clear conviction: Europe’s most serious founders deserve investors with real company building experience and ambition to match. We operate from London, Tallinn and Paris and invest at an early stage across frontier software, deep technology and systemic challenges, from artificial intelligence and defence to space, energy and advanced manufacturing.

Our portfolio includes companies such as Helsing, building Europe’s leading AI defence technology platform; The Exploration Company, developing reusable space infrastructure; Proxima Fusion, advancing next generation fusion energy; and Monumental, automating construction through robotics. These are not incremental businesses. They are technically demanding, capital intensive and globally consequential.

Plural’s mission is unapologetically ambitious: to help build companies capable of GDP level impact in Europe, address systemic risks and expand opportunity through technology. We invest in companies designed to reshape industries, strengthen the continent’s resilience and generate GDP scale impact.

Working at Plural is not a conventional venture role. It is a front row seat to founders tackling hard problems at global scale. You will work closely with an international team of founders turned investors who have built, scaled and exited companies themselves, and contribute meaningfully to businesses designed to matter.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the product and automation engine of one of Europe’s most ambitious and fastest growing venture platforms.

[The Role]

We are hiring a Product and Automation Engineer to build the internal products and automation layer of the firm.

You will work directly with the Head of Platform & Operations and Head of Systems & Security to design, develop and ship systems that power:

  • Partner support (including investment operations, information flows and insights from new pipeline to portfolio companies);
  • Portfolio support (including company fundraising, recruitment and other verticals)
  • Portfolio management and reporting; and
  • Sourcing, market intelligence and investment operations

This is a hands-on builder role, equivalent to joining a tech startup as a technical co-founder or as the very first engineer. You have to think deeply about commercial needs and translate them into practical, well-designed tooling using best-in-class AI-first software, smart integrations and lightweight custom engineering.

You will own the product layer of Plural's internal stack, what gets built, for whom, and why. The infrastructure layer (how systems run, how they are secured, and how they are maintained) is owned by the Head of Systems & Security. You will work in close partnership with that role, not in overlap with it.

You need a strong instinct for the privacy and security of handling proprietary and sensitive data, and will operate within the data governance and security frameworks set by the Head of Systems & Security. Any tool selection or procurement decisions above an agreed threshold will require joint sign-off with that role.

The goal is simple: increase leverage, clarity and speed across the firm and for the portfolio companies we back.

[Responsibilities]

1. Internal Product Development

  • Own the design and delivery of internal products that improve how the firm operates.
  • This includes identifying opportunities, managing prioritisation and dependencies, defining workflows, prototyping solutions, shipping tools and iterating based on user feedback.
  • Examples may include continuing to build out the Firm’s internal products around:
  • Sourcing and investment operations (e.g. structured investment workflows);
  • Productising portfolio support services (e.g. fundraising support systems);
  • Building portfolio management dashboards; and
  • Designing knowledge capture and insight layers.
  • You will treat internal systems as real products with clear users, feedback loops and continuous improvement.
  • You will maintain a prioritised product roadmap, reviewed with the Head of Platform & Operations and Head of Systems + Security on a regular cadence, and shared with Partners as relevant.

2. Workflow Design + Automation

  • Map existing processes and redesign repetitive or manual tasks to reduce friction and increase signal.
  • Implement automation across tools and data sources, ensuring that information is captured once and reused intelligently.
  • Create systems that compound over time. Examples may include:
  • Automating reporting flows
  • Streamlining deal tracking and diligence
  • Integrating CRM with data and analytics tools
  • Documenting all automated workflows clearly so they can be maintained and audited independently of the person who built them
  • Coach and upskill the broader team to build and automate their own workflows — equipping colleagues with the frameworks, tools and confidence to solve their own efficiency problems, so the firm's capacity to improve compounds beyond this function.

3. Tooling + Integration

  • Build/partner/buy decisions: Evaluate and engineer the integration of best-in-class tools to create a custom, high-leverage internal stack.
  • Build integrations using APIs and automation platforms.
  • Maintain a coherent, scalable internal stack focused on usability and leverage., collaborating with Systems + Security to ensure robustness and compliance.
  • Manage vendor relationships for products within your ownership, including feedback loops and renewal recommendations.

4. Data Insight + Infrastructure

  • Improve how we capture, structure and extract insight from firm activity.
  • Manage architectural data backbone to ensure a resilient single source of truth of data sources across the organisation.
  • Design clean data flows
  • Standardise portfolio reporting, performance metrics, and pipeline analytics across the firm.
  • Build dashboards and reporting layers.
  • Enable better partner decision-making through structured visibility.
  • Examples may include:
  • Centralised portfolio KPI ingestion.
  • Granular transaction data reusable across finance, audit, performance calculations, etc.
  • Fund-level performance views.
  • Investment pipeline intelligence.
  • Operate within the data governance framework set by the Head of Systems & Security, including data classification, retention and access control standards.

5. Continuous Improvement & Adoption

  • Drive adoption across the team.
  • Ensure systems are intuitive and reliable.
  • Document workflows clearly.
  • Continuously refine based on real usage.
  • Success is measured by behaviour change and leverage not features shipped.
  • Define measurable success criteria for each product or workflow shipped, and report against them. Success is demonstrated through behaviour change and leverage, not features shipped.

  • Good understanding of relational and graph databases.
  • Attention to detail and constant iteration of quality and performance of the systems you build.
