Senior Engineering Manager

Xcede has exclusively partnered with a fast-growing, venture-backed deep tech company operating in the digital identity and data privacy space. Their mission is to redefine how data is owned, shared, and secured - building a decentralised identity platform that enables individuals and businesses to have full control over their digital footprint.

This is a Senior Engineering Manager position with a strong backend focus, leading multiple teams building a complex, distributed platform. You’ll combine people leadership with deep technical ownership, guiding architecture, driving delivery, and scaling high-performing engineering teams.

Your role as a Senior Engineering Manager:

• Lead and scale multiple full-stack engineering teams, mentoring Engineering Managers and senior engineers.
• Drive delivery of high-performance, secure, distributed systems, ensuring scalability and reliability in production.
• Provide technical leadership across backend architecture, particularly in Rust, TypeScript, and microservices environments.
• Contribute to system design decisions around distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Collaborate with product and design to translate business goals into technical roadmaps and execution plans.
• Establish and evolve engineering best practices across code quality, testing, CI/CD, and system reliability.
• Champion security-first and privacy-by-design principles, particularly across identity and authentication systems.

What we're expecting:

• Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams in fast-paced environments, with ownership of delivery and team performance.
• Strong leadership skills, including coaching Engineering Managers and senior engineers and building high-performing teams.
• Deep backend expertise, ideally in Rust, with strong experience in TypeScript/Node.js (Go, C# or similar is a plus).
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and microservices in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Solid understanding of system design, scalability, and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with modern frontend technologies (e.g. React, Next.js or Flutter).
• Experience driving engineering best practices across CI/CD, testing, and code quality.
• Interest or experience in security, privacy, or identity systems is a strong plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with product and design.
