Head of Engineering

We’re partnering with one of the world’s most iconic consumer brands - a company whose products are recognized in nearly every country on the planet. We are hiring a Head of Software Engineering to lead a large-scale, consumer-facing mobile platform operating across Europe.

This role owns the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery model for a complex ecosystem spanning iOS, Android, backend services, and web platforms. You’ll lead a distributed engineering organisation (circa 25 engineers) delivered primarily through external partners, with a strong focus on modernisation, scalability, and engineering excellence.

This is a high-impact leadership role suited to someone who can operate at both strategic and technical depth, while bringing structure and control to a vendor-led environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own the technical strategy and architecture of a multi-country mobile platform
• Lead and evolve a distributed engineering organisation (via external vendors)
• Drive modernisation of legacy systems into scalable, cloud-based architectures
• Establish and enforce engineering standards, governance, and best practices
• Transition teams to a high-performing, product-led (pod-based) delivery model
• Partner with product and business stakeholders to align technical execution with business outcomes
• Oversee integrations with high-scale internal and third-party platforms
• Coach and develop senior engineers and tech leads

What We’re Looking For

• 12–15+ years in software engineering, with experience in senior leadership roles
• Proven track record leading multi-team engineering organisations
• Strong experience managing vendor / outsourced engineering teams
• Solid background in mobile platforms (iOS & Android) and backend systems
• Experience driving large-scale system modernisation / transformation
• Strong architectural knowledge (distributed systems, APIs, scalability)
• Experience working in Agile / product-led environments
• Comfortable operating across both technical and stakeholder-facing domains

Nice to have:

• Experience with Node.js, GraphQL, AWS or GCP
• Exposure to domain-driven design / modern architecture practices
