We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our product engineering team. You will play a key role in defining the physical experience of our products and work closely with our product manager team and industrial design to bring innovative hardware products from concept to mass production.

This is a hands-on role focused on turning design intent into practical, manufacturable solutions that balance performance, cost, durability, and user experience. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, works well in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in building products people genuinely value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive mechanical design and development of Birdbuddy hardware products.
  • Collaborate closely with industrial design to seamlessly integrate form and function.
  • Develop 3D CAD models and technical documentation (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Design for manufacturing, assembly, and reliability (DFM, DFA, DFR).
  • Lead and support prototyping, testing and iteration cycles.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure high-quality production.
  • Conduct tolerance analysis, material selection, and component validation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design, production, and field issues.
  • Contribute to engineering decisions, architecture, and product specifications.

Key Qualifications

  • 3–6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in consumer hardware or electronics.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, injection molding, plastics, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Experience taking products from concept through to mass production.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with industrial design and engineering teams.
  • Experience bringing products from concept to mass production.
  • Background in smart/connected devices.
  • Familiarity with sustainable materials and design practices.

Join Us

  • Work on a project that can truly change how millions of people perceive nature and help them make a lasting impact on global biodiversity for generations to come.
  • Engage with a passionate, dynamic, and talented team.
  • Be part of the fast-paced, innovative environment of a rapidly growing startup, with abundant opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Enjoy competitive stock options, at least 25 days of paid leave, and an open-ended contract with a trial period.
  • Receive your own Birdbuddy Feeder and Birdbuddy Premium Family subscription.

If this describes you, we invite you to submit your application to help us learn more about you and your potential contributions to our mission to connect people with nature through technology.
