About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Rust Software Developer to join our client's dynamic engineering team in Herndon, VA. This is a direct placement opportunity offering paid relocation assistance and an attractive annual salary of up to $230,000. The primary focus of this role is to lead the development and integration of mission-critical systems using Rust, supporting the next generation of embedded software applications. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in adopting Rust across multiple product lines, ensuring robust, reliable, and high-performance software solutions for defense and aerospace applications. This position requires a proactive approach, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet stringent operational requirements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience. Candidates with a graduate degree should have at least 10 years of experience, while those without a degree must have a minimum of 16 years of relevant industry experience. A strong background in Rust development is essential, with at least 5 years of hands-on experience developing production systems using Rust. Proficiency in C/C++ programming and object-oriented design principles is also required. U.S. citizenship and an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance are mandatory. Additional qualifications include experience with embedded real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, Linux, or Integrity, and familiarity with software development lifecycle processes, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and hardware-software integration.

Responsibilities

The Software Developer will support and lead embedded software application development with Rust, ensuring adherence to best practices and design patterns. Responsibilities include deploying Rust across multiple product lines, developing and evaluating system interfaces, and ensuring that operational performance requirements are met. The role involves participating in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to formal testing and deployment. The candidate will investigate complex issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions independently or within multidisciplinary teams. Developing comprehensive test plans, technical documentation, and conducting experimental tests with modeling tools are integral parts of the role. The developer will also serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers, review code, and facilitate peer reviews. Travel of more than 30% may be required for onboarding, integration, or scrum activities at different company locations.
