IT Consultant – Application Management (m/f/d) | Defence Sector | Remote | Long-term Contract
Our client is a leading defence-sector IT service provider in Germany, supporting mission-critical logistics and procurement systems within a highly secure and complex environment. They are seeking a freelance IT Consultant to support the application management of existing systems, ensuring stability, performance, and continuous improvement across interconnected legacy and modern platforms.
Project Details:
Duration: June 2026 – December 2028
Workload: 5 days per week (full-time)
Location: Remote (90%) | Bonn (10%)
Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain existing applications within a complex logistics and procurement system landscape.
- Analyze business requirements and implement changes within legacy and web-based systems.
- Manage incidents, problems, and changes in line with ITIL-based service management processes.
- Monitor and control batch processing, data flows, and system interfaces.
- Ensure data consistency and oversee data transfers between internal systems and external interfaces, including SAP.
- Perform error analysis, bug fixing, and continuous system optimization.
- Conduct testing, quality assurance, and validation of implemented changes.
- Work with mainframe-based environments (z/OS) and associated development and scripting tools.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of mission-critical applications.
- Maintain documentation and support ongoing system improvements in a regulated environment.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in Application Management or IT Operations within complex system landscapes.
- Strong expertise in IBM mainframe environments (z/OS, PL/I, JCL, REXX, ISPF).
- Experience with relational databases (DB2) and SQL-based data analysis.
- Knowledge of SAP interfaces and integration with non-SAP systems.
- Hands-on experience with ITIL-based service management tools (e.g. Maximo).
- Experience with web technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and Apache.
- Background in managing interfaces and data flows across multiple systems.
- Experience in logistics environments, ideally within defence or similar regulated sectors.
- ITIL Foundation and Scrum Master certification required.
- Fluent German and good English language skills.
