Azure Data Analyst

Position Description

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client office at a minimum 2 days per week - subject to change at any time.

The Azure Data Analyst will play a critical role in designing, analyzing, and delivering enterprise‑scale data solutions within an Azure cloud ecosystem. This role requires a strong combination of data design expertise, business analysis skills, and domain knowledge in personal banking products. The candidate will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and agile delivery teams to translate business needs into high‑quality, scalable data models and solutions.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Data Design & Architecture

  • Design and maintain logical and physical data models aligned with business requirements and enterprise standards.
  • Define end to end data mappings from source systems to target data platforms, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform data profiling to assess data quality, structure, and anomalies, and recommend remediation strategies.
  • Support the definition of data standards, naming conventions, and reference data.

Azure & Databricks Development Support

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design data solutions using Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Databricks).
  • Work closely with Databricks developers to ensure data transformations align with approved data models.
  • Review and validate data pipelines to ensure compliance with business rules and architectural guidelines.

Business Analysis & Banking Domain Engagement

  • Partner with business stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document data and reporting requirements.
  • Apply strong understanding of personal banking products (such as accounts, customers, transactions, lending, and payments) to data design decisions.
  • Translate business processes and regulatory requirements into structured data representations.

SQL & Data Validation

  • Write advanced SQL queries for data exploration, validation, reconciliation, and issue investigation.
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and data validation activities by comparing source and target datasets.
  • Identify data quality issues and work with technical teams to resolve root causes.

Agile Delivery & Collaboration

  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, grooming, stand ups, reviews).
  • Estimate and plan data design and analysis tasks in coordination with scrum teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and user stories using Jira and Confluence.
  • Support continuous improvement of agile data delivery practices.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate complex data concepts clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders.
  • Lead data design reviews, walkthroughs, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data analysts or designers when required.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

Core Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with Azure Data Platform (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Synapse, or related services).
  • Hands on experience with Databricks for data transformations and analytics.
  • Advanced SQL skills for data analysis, profiling, and validation.
  • Proven expertise in Data Profiling, Data Mapping, and Data Modeling (logical and physical).

Business & Domain Skills

  • Strong Business Analysis skills, including requirements elicitation and documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of personal banking products and data domains.
  • Ability to translate business needs into scalable and reusable data designs.

Tools & Ways of Working

  • Experience using Jira for backlog and sprint management.
  • Proficient in Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to team goals.

  • Experience in regulated financial services environments.
  • Exposure to data governance, metadata management, or data lineage tools.
  • Familiarity with reporting or downstream analytics use cases.

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,000–$130,000. This role is an existing vacancy."
