Software Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced and motivated Software Engineers to support the delivery of multiple ICT projects. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, contributing to the development of secure, scalable, and high-quality digital solutions using modern technologies and cloud-native practices.

Contract Details

• Rate: AUD 800 – 900 per day (depending on experience)
• Eligibility: Must be eligible for Baseline Security Clearance

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain secure .NET (8/10) backend services and REST APIs (including versioning, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2/OIDC).
• Develop React-based frontends that integrate with APIs and meet accessibility standards.
• Integrate internal and third-party systems (event-driven/messaging systems, identity platforms, CRM solutions).
• Apply secure coding practices and SDLC controls (e.g., code scanning) and manage secrets using tools like Azure Key Vault.
• Develop and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, UI) and enforce quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.
• Conduct peer code reviews using DevOps tools.
• Implement solutions aligned with architecture standards, including API design, security, performance, and observability (e.g., Application Insights).
• Produce technical documentation, release notes, and operational runbooks, including handover documentation.
• Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and solution options to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with product, UX, security, and operations teams in an Agile delivery environment.
• Mentor junior team members and promote cross-skilling within the team.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and collaboration.
• Perform other duties as required.

Essential Criteria

• Qualifications & Experience:
• Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering (or equivalent experience) with strong exposure to cloud-native architectures, including event-driven integration and data platforms (SQL Server/Azure SQL, Blob Storage, caching), and high-volume processing.
• Technical Expertise:
• Minimum 10+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting secure web applications across backend and frontend, including:
• Modern .NET (8/10) and ASP.NET Web APIs
• REST API design (versioning, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2/OIDC)
• React development
• Automated testing (unit, integration, UI) using tools such as xUnit, nUnit, Playwright, or Selenium
• Cloud & DevOps:
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including:
• App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL
• Service Bus / Event Grid
• API Management
• CI/CD using Azure DevOps
• Monitoring tools (Application Insights)
• Third-party integrations (e.g., Dynamics 365)
• Security tools (e.g., Key Vault)
• Legacy system modernisation
• API-led Delivery:
• Proven experience in API-led architecture and delivery, including governance, performance optimisation, OpenAPI/Swagger, and API security patterns.
• Ways of Working & Security Mindset:Familiarity with ISM security controls
• Ability to work effectively across distributed teams
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Demonstrated mentoring and collaboration skills

Desirable Criteria

• Experience in test automation and quality engineering within CI/CD pipelines (Playwright, Selenium, Jest, static analysis tools).
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary Agile teams, with the ability to adapt to evolving requirements and constraints.
