Senior Network Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer for a large financial enterprise with a strong on-premise datacenter environment. In this role you will work hands-on with Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco switching and datacenter infrastructure (Nutanix, Rubrik) while contributing to a major datacenter transition and network modernization journey.

You will join a senior but informal team where technical depth, ownership and personality fit are just as important as certifications. This is a role for someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and take responsibility in a critical IT environment.

About the role

As Senior Network Engineer you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, improvement and development of a complex enterprise network infrastructure.

You will work in an environment where stability, security and compliance are critical, and where the network forms the backbone of all business operations.

You will:

• Manage and maintain WAN, LAN and Wi-Fi environments
• Work hands-on with Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco switching infrastructure
• Contribute to major initiatives such as:
• Datacenter transition and migration activities
• Firewall optimization (policy consolidation, SSL inspection)
• WAN expansion and segmentation (Zero Trust initiatives)
• Lifecycle management and infrastructure improvements
• Design and improve network architecture (HLD/LLD)
• Support incident resolution and structural problem management
• Collaborate closely with Infra, Security and Architecture teams
• Document processes, changes and technical designs
• Contribute to roadmap discussions and strategic improvements

Environment highlights:

• On-premise datacenter environment (no full cloud shift yet)
• Technologies: Nutanix, Rubrik, Palo Alto, Cisco
• Financial enterprise with strict security and compliance requirements
• Minimum 2 days per week onsite in Den Haag
• Hands-on engineering focus (not purely advisory)

Who are you?

• Strong senior experience in network engineering / infrastructure
• Extensive experience with Cisco networking and Palo Alto firewalls
• Hands-on mentality ("stroop je mouwen op" mindset)
• Comfortable working in complex enterprise environments
• Communicative and able to work with different stakeholders
• Team player who fits a direct, informal culture
• Not overly dominant, but collaborative and grounded personality
• Experience with datacenter or infrastructure migrations is a strong plus
