Integration and Test Engineer

LUXUAV
Luxembourg · Full-time · Mid-Senior

LUXUAV is an innovative technology company headquartered in Luxembourg. We specialize in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our modular systems are tested in real-world conditions and specifically tailored for both commercial and security applications.

We are seeking an Integration & Test Engineer to lead the verification, validation, and integration of our autonomous UAV platforms. You will be responsible for ensuring that hardware, firmware, software, and algorithmic subsystems work together reliably across lab, simulation, and field environments. This role spans bench-level integration, HIL/SIL testbed development, flight trial execution, certification support, and defect diagnosis. You will work at the intersection of multiple engineering disciplines, collaborating closely with electronics, firmware, embedded software, RF, mechanical, and algorithm teams. You will ensure the delivery of production-ready, safety-critical autonomous systems. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical breadth, systematic problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate in fast-paced, mission-critical development cycles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end system reliability by leading the integration, bring-up, and validation of all subsystems (PX4/ArduPilot controllers, Jetson/RB5 companion computers, EO/IR, IMU/GNSS, radios, power, HSM, and payloads), ensuring zero-defect flight releases and proactively reducing integration turnaround times.
  • Support prototype bring-up for new PCBs and modular payload assemblies, validate electrical/mechanical interfaces and communication buses (CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, Ethernet) and troubleshoot system-level hardware/firmware/software issues.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans at unit, subsystem, and system levels for bench, chamber, and field; automate test execution/reporting with Python, LabVIEW, and ensure tight integration with CI/CD (GitLab/Jenkins). Define verification matrices, KPIs, and acceptance criteria covering latency, accuracy, throughput, and stability.
  • Set up and operate HIL/SIL testbeds (Gazebo, PX4 SITL, MATLAB/Simulink), enabling scenario scripting, fault injection, replay, and physical-simulator integration; maintain and optimize test infrastructure.
  • Plan and execute advanced flight trials (including GNSS-denied, EW-contested, and swarm scenarios), rigorously coordinate safety/regulatory constraints, analyze telemetry/mission logs and drive post-flight issue identification and fixes with development teams.
  • Support certification and system readiness by coordinating EMC/EMI and safety-related testing (e.g. DO-178C, SORA, STANAG), documenting procedures and results, generating verification and evidence packs.
  • Champion CI/CD-driven test automation, continuous improvement, and systematic delivery of integration milestones through collaborative cross-disciplinary teamwork (embedded, electronics, RF, mechanical, and algorithm teams); provide technical guidance for vendors, partners, and field operations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related.
  • 5+ years experience integrating and testing hardware/software for UAVs, robotics, or embedded systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience integrating embedded hardware and software: flight controllers (PX4, ArduPilot), companion computers (NVIDIA Jetson), sensors (IMU, GNSS, EO/IR), radios (Wi-Fi, mesh, LoRa, LTE, RF, telemetry).
  • Knowledge in PCB bring-up, wiring, modular payload and compute pod integration.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition systems, multimeters.
  • Skilled in communication protocols and interfaces debugging: CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, MAVLink, UAVCAN.
  • Solid knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and testbed tools: Gazebo, PX4 SITL, jMAVSim, AirSim, MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills: Python, Bash, C/C++ for test automation, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with test automation tools: LabVIEW, Matlab/Simulink, pytest, or custom test frameworks.
  • Proven experience of data collection and analysis: telemetry logging, log parsing, sensor data merging using Python, MATLAB, or other analytics tools (e.g. PowerBI).
  • Proven experience in test planning, traceability, issue tracking, and technical documentation (JIRA, Confluence, Git, Office/Google Workspace).
  • Demonstrated experience of driving system reliability from bench-to-flight and delivering error-free test cycles.
  • Proven record of managing complex integration projects, coordinating subsystems, and meeting validation milestones.
  • Excellent documentation skills: test plans, procedures, reports, and compliance artifacts.
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills; ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advanced technical English for reports, documentation and team communication.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience with complex system validation approaches, including simulation-driven integration, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), use of digital twins, or advanced multi-domain test environments.
  • Direct experience testing autonomous UAV/drone platforms in both lab and field environments.
  • Familiarity with flight control systems (PX4, ArduPilot), MAVLink protocol, and mission planning tools.
  • Knowledge of ROS/ROS2 for sensor integration, data logging, and testbed development.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI testing, environmental testing (thermal, vibration), and regulatory certification processes.
  • Understanding of safety-critical standards: DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160G, ARP4754A.
  • Experience with Docker/VM/container-based test infrastructures.
  • Experience leading small teams or coordinating multi-site testing activities.
  • Resilient under pressure, adaptive to rapid change, and proactive in driving improvement and integration quality.
