Product Design Lead
Melbourne or Sydney | In office 3 days/week
Up to $200k base + 10% bonus + super
The Opportunity:
This FinTech builds software that underpins the delivery of financial advice across Australia. Its Wealth management platform is deeply embedded across the industry and used by everyone from major firms to independent advisers.
The scale is there. The customer base is there. The challenge now is modernisation. To help drive this transformation, we're hiring a Product Design Lead.
The Role:
- This is not a pure leadership role, and it’s not one for someone who wants to sit above the work.
- It’s a hands-on design lead role, roughly 60 to 70% execution and 30 to 40% coaching, uplift, and team leadership.
- The focus is on redesigning complex workflows, improving the end-to-end product experience, and helping design play a much stronger role in shaping product direction.
- You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering, support a small internal team, and help lift the overall maturity of design in a business going through real modernisation.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead end-to-end product design across key initiatives
- Help modernise complex workflows across a market-leading platform
- Coach and support 3 internal designers + manage 3 vendor designers
- Work closely with Product and Engineering to bring more clarity before solutioning begins
- Help lift design quality across both internal and partner-delivered work
- Contribute to new AI-enabled product experiences as the platform evolves
What we’re Looking For:
- At least 2 years in a formal people leadership capacity, while still remaining hands-on enough to deliver meaningful design outcomes
- Experience designing for wealth, advice, trading, or other financial services platforms, or adjacent products built around complex, high-value user tasks
- Strong end-to-end product design experience spanning research, UX, UI, prototyping, and testing
- Ability to bring clarity to ambiguous problems and work through complexity in a structured way
- Experience coaching designers and lifting design quality across a team
- Strong product thinking, not just executional design craft
- Confidence working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering
- A track record of simplifying complex journeys within detail-heavy systems
Portfolio submissions are a non-negotiable requirement as part of the application.
