HAYS have partnered with a global company in their search for a Senior Software Developer with deep Python and Machine Learning expertise to join a high-performing consulting team delivering cutting-edge software solutions into a large-scale industrial environment.

You’ll be working on mission-critical platforms that support highly automated, electrified operations, focusing on real-time decisioning, optimisation, and intelligent system orchestration. These platforms integrate advanced software engineering with production-grade machine learning, driving efficiency, reliability, and performance in a complex operational setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build high-performance distributed systems and microservices, primarily in Python
• Lead the end-to-end implementation of machine learning-powered services, including:
• Model integration and real-time inference
• Training pipelines and simulation environments
• Ensure production-grade ML systems are scalable, observable, and reliable
• Optimise system performance, latency, and computational efficiency
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive best practices
• Collaborate with architects, data scientists, and DevOps teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Establish robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code practices
• Maintain strong system observability, monitoring, and diagnostics

Skills & Experience

• Strong, hands-on Python development experience in production environments
• Proven experience deploying and integrating machine learning models into real-world systems
• Solid understanding of ML lifecycle, including training, validation, deployment, and monitoring
• Experience working with computationally intensive ML workloads and optimising performance

Technical Expertise

• 8+ years’ experience in software development, with a focus on backend systems
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems architecture
• Experience with microservices, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with event/message-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, MQTT)
• Strong Linux systems experience (e.g. Ubuntu, RedHat)
• Experience with CI/CD and IaC tools (e.g. GitHub Actions, Terraform)
• Proficiency in at least one additional language (C++, C#, Rust, etc.) advantageous

Desirable Experience

• Background in real-time, high-availability environments highly regarded
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical delivery
• Strong system design and problem-solving capabilities
