Software Development Engineer II (Kotlin/Android)

Tesco
United Kingdom · Full-time · Not Applicable

About the role

Tesco’s Scan As You Shop solution is
an in-store experience that lets customers build a virtual basket on a handheld
device during their shopping journey so that they can keep a close eye on their
budget and skip the queues at checkout. Since late 2021, we’ve brought the solution
entirely in house, and we’re now live in over 800 stores across the UK and the
Republic of Ireland, with plans to move into Central Europe this year.

The engineering team owns the UI
applications (built on Android OS), a small backend service, and a few other
technology components that support the solution. The  All the engineers in the team ultimately take
ownership of both the frontend and backend systems within the domain.

We’re looking for a new team member,
preferably with a background in Android development, that can help us evolve
and scale our systems as we navigate a wide range of challenges in the context
of store technology.

We’re a friendly team that takes collaboration and
agility seriously, looking for the right person to help us move into an
exciting new chapter.

You will be responsible for

·       Developing
high-quality code that can lead to rapid delivery, following standard
methodologies for continuous integration and delivery

·       Supporting production
systems, resolving incidents, and performing root cause analysis

·       Leading discussions
on the design of the system and understanding the domain well enough to work
with Product Managers to drive value

·       Working efficiently
with partners across the organisation to communicate and translate business
needs into improvements in the product

You will need

  • Experience with Kotlin

  • Experience working in a collaborative team

  • A background in Android development (ideally)
