Azure Security Lead

Role Overview

As an Azure Security Lead, you will play a critical role in defining and strengthening the organization’s security posture within a modern Azure-based workplace. You will design, implement, and manage robust security strategies, ensuring protection of digital assets and compliance with regulatory requirements.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including Security, DevOps, IT, and Compliance—to build and maintain a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Azure Security Strategy

• Develop and execute a comprehensive Azure security strategy aligned with business goals
• Stay current with Azure security services, tools, and best practices
• Continuously enhance security posture through proactive improvements

2. Security Architecture & Design

• Design end-to-end security solutions across Azure services
• Implement controls for identity & access management, network security, and data protection
• Embed security into application and infrastructure lifecycle

3. Security Governance & Compliance

• Define and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures
• Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and industry standards
• Lead audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews

4. Security Monitoring & Incident Response

• Implement monitoring solutions using Azure-native tools
• Detect, analyze, and respond to security threats and incidents
• Lead incident response and recovery efforts

5. Cloud Security Automation

• Develop automation scripts and playbooks (PowerShell, Python, etc.)
• Streamline security operations and reduce manual intervention

6. Security Awareness & Training

• Conduct training programs to promote security awareness
• Collaborate with HR and L&D teams to build a security-first culture

7. Vendor & Third-Party Risk Management

• Assess and manage risks related to vendors and cloud partners
• Conduct security due diligence and ensure compliance

8. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain detailed documentation of security policies, incidents, and configurations
• Prepare reports and dashboards for stakeholders and leadership

9. Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Azure security professionals
• Collaborate with DevOps, IT, Legal, and Compliance teams
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in security practices

Essential Skills

• Strong expertise in Azure Security Services (e.g., Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Azure Monitor)
• Deep understanding of cloud security architecture and best practices
• Experience in security governance, risk, and compliance
• Hands-on experience with incident response and threat detection
• Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python)

Desirable Skills

• 8+ years of overall experience in security or cloud domains
• Relevant certifications such as:
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• AZ-500, SC-100, SC-300, MS-500
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• In-depth knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards
• Ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
• Language proficiency: Dutch (C1/C2) and English
