As a Software Developer - XR at Foster + Partners, you will help shape cutting-edge extended reality (XR) technologies that transform how the built environment is designed, visualised and experienced. Working within the Applied Research + Development team, you will create immersive, interactive applications that enable real-time collaboration, high-fidelity visualisation and spatial insight across architecture, engineering and construction projects.

As a Software Developer - XR at Foster + Partners, you will help shape cutting-edge extended reality (XR) technologies that transform how the built environment is designed, visualised and experienced. Working within the Applied Research + Development team, you will create immersive, interactive applications that enable real-time collaboration, high-fidelity visualisation and spatial insight across architecture, engineering and construction projects.
This role is ideal if you want to:
- Build immersive XR applications that push the boundaries of design and collaboration.
- Work across the full innovation lifecycle from experimental prototypes to production-ready solutions.
- Explore cutting-edge AR, VR and real-time game engine technologies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering and technology.
- Contribute to meaningful projects that shape the future of the built environment.
- Strong experience developing interactive or XR applications across multiple platforms and devices.
- Advanced knowledge of Unreal and/or Unity game engines and real-time rendering workflows.
- Solid programming expertise in C++ and/or C#.
- Awareness of XR risks and best practices with a focus on delivering robust, secure solutions.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and version control tools such as Git.
- Knowledge of UI/UX principles and interaction design within immersive environments.
- Familiarity with cloud, streaming or GPU technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, CUDA) and design and construction tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper or Revit is advantageous.
