Java Software Engineer (+Kafka) - Berlin

We're working with a well-established RegTech software company headquartered in Switzerland, building compliance and financial crime prevention products used by banks and financial institutions globally. This is a product engineering role you'll be working on a real platform, used in production, by real clients (1,500 clients on over 80 countries!!)

The role

You'll join a backend engineering team responsible for developing and evolving core product services. The work spans both established codebases and newer services, so you'll need to be comfortable navigating complexity and contributing meaningfully across both. Think less "greenfield from scratch" and more "building something that genuinely matters and has to work."

Day to day you'll be designing and implementing backend features end-to-end, working closely with product and QA, contributing to code reviews, and helping raise the engineering bar across the team.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of solid backend Java experience in a product or platform environment
• Strong SQL and database fundamentals - this is a data-intensive domain
• Experience with event-driven architecture or messaging systems (Kafka or similar) is a must
• Comfortable with containerisation as part of your normal workflow
• Someone who takes quality seriously - clean, testable, maintainable code as a default, not an afterthought
