Description
As a Maps SDK Engineer on the Maps Developer Platform team, you will work at the intersection of web technologies, developer tooling, and cartographic technology. In this role, you will lead a small team of engineers while also contributing directly as an individual contributor. We build the APIs and tools powering the Apple Maps Developer experience. On our team, you will help us take new features from conceptualization, through design and implementation, all the way to announcing them at Apple's Developer Conference! Furthermore, you will partner directly with a wide range of clients to build highly impactful mapping solutions, including 3rd party developers and websites powered by Apple Maps.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Contribute directly as an individual contributor alongside your team.
  • Elicit requirements from our clients and translate them into scalable, reliable code.
  • Design, review and implement 3rd party developer APIs & Tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Human Interaction Design, Services, and other Engineering and Data teams.
  • Develop, launch, and maintain cross-platform features that integrate Maps with the web ecosystem.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science and commercial software engineering experience in a production environment
  • Proven track record of architecting, developing, releasing and supporting critically important software components
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript

Preferred Qualifications
  • Passion to collaborate and iterate on ideas in a cross-functional team
  • Experience collaborating across geographically distributed and international teams
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other spatial visualization systems Experience building or contributing to developer-facing SDKs or APIs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to explain complex problems clearly and succinctly
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery tools and processes
  • Experience writing testable code and familiarity with unit testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with modern web frameworks such as React, Vue, or similar
  • Familiarity with system architecture and API design
