Engineering Lead

We're haboo, a FinTechForGood startup backed by leading global investors including Techstars. We use Open Banking and technology to help people struggling with debt find a clear path to financial freedom. It's a real problem, and we're building something that genuinely matters.

We're looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to own our technical direction and help us scale. This is a foundational role with real autonomy - you'll be hands-on in the code and hands-on in shaping where we go next.

What you'll do

• Own engineering decisions end-to-end, from system architecture to native mobile apps
• Work across our Kotlin back end and full-stack mobile codebase
• Partner directly with the founders to shape the product roadmap
• Define engineering standards and be the technical lead as the team grows
• Ship things quickly and properly - velocity matters, but so does craft

What we're looking for

• Significant full-stack experience, comfortable across back end, APIs, and mobile
• Strong production experience in Kotlin, ideally with AWS serverless
• Experience making architectural decisions that stand up over time
• Product-minded - you think about the "why", not just the "what"
• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools like Claude Code and GitHub Copilot
• Genuine interest in Open Banking and AI products
• Someone who leads through trust and communicates well with non-technical stakeholders
