Job Summary

This is a highly hands-on leadership role focused on building scalable AWS-based Data & AI solutions while leading a small engineering team and collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers and teams, and building modern cloud-native data and AI platforms end-to-end with a strong execution mindset and can-do approach.


Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 3–4 Data Engineers.
  • Act as a hands-on technical leader across multiple Data & AI initiatives.
  • Design, build, and scale cloud-native data platforms and AI systems on AWS.
  • Develop and maintain large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming systems, APIs, and analytics platforms.
  • Lead implementation of modern AI and GenAI solutions including intelligent agents, RAG systems, automation workflows, and ML integrations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, customers, architects, product managers, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical planning, architecture discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, observability, and security across production environments.
  • Drive engineering best practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate across teams while maintaining strong ownership and delivery focus.
  • Support fast-moving delivery cycles with a pragmatic, solution-oriented, and can-do approach.


Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience leading engineering or data engineering teams.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Backend Engineering, or Cloud Architecture.
  • Strong ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a technical team, combined with sophisticated customer-facing skills to effectively bridge the gap between complex data operations and business-centric solutions for stakeholders.
  • Strong hands-on development experience with Python and SQL.
  • Deep experience building solutions on AWS.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing modern cloud data platforms and lakehouse architectures.
  • Experience with ETL/ELT, orchestration, and distributed data processing systems.
  • Strong experience with technologies such as: AWS Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, S3, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks, DBT, Airflow, Kafka / streaming platforms, Spark
  • Experience building APIs and scalable backend services.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, Git workflows, monitoring, and DevOps practices.
  • Ability to balance hands-on execution with team leadership and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Professional fluency in both German and English is required for this role in the DACH region.
