Java Developer

Location: Sydney CBD (Hybrid, 2 to 3 days in office)

Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: $90,000 to $145,000 plus super depending on experience

About the Role

Join a platform engineering team building a core SaaS product used in production by insurance providers.

This is a hands-on Java role focused on delivering platform features, enhancements, and fixes within a shared codebase.

You will work closely with Product, Delivery, and Engineering to build clean, maintainable solutions while continuing to develop your technical capability in a collaborative and supportive environment.

We are open to developers at different stages of their career, particularly engineers with strong Java fundamentals, a growth mindset, and an interest in building long-term product knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build new features and enhancements in Java
• Contribute to larger platform initiatives as part of a team
• Write clean, well-structured, and testable code
• Build and maintain REST-based services and platform components
• Work with SQL databases and contribute to schema changes
• Write unit and integration tests using JUnit and Mockito
• Collaborate with product and delivery teams to define and deliver solutions
• Contribute to continuous improvement of code quality and engineering practices

Skills and Experience

• 3+ years commercial software development experience
• Strong Java development experience (Java 8+)
• Experience with Spring or similar dependency injection frameworks
• Experience with Hibernate or JPA
• Strong SQL and relational database experience
• Experience building APIs and working with REST services
• Experience writing unit tests using JUnit or Mockito
• Familiarity with Git and build tools such as Maven or Gradle
• Experience working in Agile teams

Nice to Have

• Exposure to SaaS or product-based environments
• Experience in insurance, banking, or financial services
• Exposure to Groovy or legacy Java-based platforms
• Experience working with enterprise application servers
