You're joining a validated learning system already delivering results at Alpha School. LearnWithAI powers the platform and is scaling rapidly throughout the US and internationally. Students complete their foundational academics in two hours daily and score in top national percentiles. The approach is proven. What's missing is someone who thinks constantly about the people using it.

You'll establish design excellence, create the standards, and develop the discipline. Your domain includes our learning platform and its companion learning tools, serving diverse user groups within Alpha and external stakeholders.

A five-year-old who hasn't learned to read yet is discovering numbers through an experience that must make discovery feel like entertainment. A teen performing two grades below level is reconstructing self-belief after extended academic setbacks, where a single unclear interaction could trigger regression. A parent gains visibility into their child's actual learning process. That transparency reduces worry and transforms them into capable advocates. An academic coach overseeing a multi-age classroom requires insight into advancement without information overload. You must comprehend each group thoroughly enough to design meaningfully distinct solutions for every one.

Your responsibility is the interface layer: investigate each user group with substantive rigor, translate findings into actionable design principles engineers can implement immediately, and deliver code-ready outputs that function now, not concepts awaiting approval. You collaborate with product owners accountable for results and developers deploying production code. You challenge proposals that compromise user quality. You maintain complete ownership.

You'll employ AI as a productivity multiplier to accelerate iteration and expand coverage, though your expertise, not automated suggestions, determines what launches. Primary emphasis remains our education platform, with intermittent assignments in additional areas.

What You Will Be Doing

• Investigate users spanning fundamentally distinct audiences and develop design frameworks that reflect that understanding
• Create and sustain design systems embedded within each product's native UI architecture so development accelerates and design scales coherently rather than diverging
• Develop functional prototypes enabling product owners to validate decisions within days rather than weeks
• Evaluate current products from the user's vantage point: identify experience failures, pinpoint engagement obstacles, determine high-impact opportunities
• Establish design standards here: feedback mechanisms, trade-off evaluation methods, non-negotiable quality benchmarks
• Collaborate with product owners and developers, challenge directives that degrade user experience

• Creating static visualizations requiring conversion to code
• Focusing on a single product; you work across our complete range
• Executing predefined design specifications; you synthesize understanding from fragmented inputs and begin designing despite information gaps

Basic Requirements

Senior Product Designer key responsibilities

• Minimum 5 years in product design or UX positions, demonstrating complete ownership from research through production deployment
• Clear evidence of user understanding and research thoroughness across populations distinct from yourself
• Verified design excellence in interaction and visual execution, with a portfolio demonstrating audience-tailored decisions over generic solutions, combined with assertive design perspectives
• Confirmed AI-integrated practice: rapid iteration capability, discriminating assessment, and willingness to reject initial AI suggestions instead of defaulting to generated output
• Capability to convert designs into functional code leveraging AI tooling and contemporary frameworks

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
