Job description
We build consumer products that grow fast. You'll build the data function that keeps up.
In 2026, the Financial Times named Wire Salad one of Europe's fastest-growing companies. We build brands and apps across fitness, skincare, human health, and pet health - products used by real people, every day, across many markets.
**This is our first dedicated data hire.**
You'll report directly to the Head of Product, inherit an existing stack (BigQuery, Airbyte, Looker, Statsig) while having a clean slate to build the data function the way you think it should be built. There are no politics around who owns which metric. Just a fast-growing company that knows it needs great data - and is betting on you to deliver it.
The problem you're solving:
Speed creates a specific kind of mess. Experiments run in parallel across four verticals. Teams hold strong opinions on different numbers for the same thing. Your job is to keep the scoreboard honest, catch what's working before anyone else does, and make sure every team is reading from the same page.
What you'll actually do:
- Build the data backbone: pipelines in Airbyte, models in BigQuery, dashboards in Looker, experiments in Statsig. Clean inputs, consistent definitions, documented logic - the foundation everything else runs on.
- Own the metrics that matter: LTV:CAC, ROAS, LTV, retention, funnel conversion, payback periods, channel attribution. Define them once, get everyone aligned, and put an end to "wait, which number is right?"
- Go proactive, not reactive: don't wait for someone to ask what's broken - build AI-assisted anomaly detection that flags it first. Spot the channel quietly leaking spend at 3am. Catch the cohort converting 40% better and explain why.
- Democratise the data: not every question should land in your inbox. Build self-serve dashboards people actually use, write docs people actually read, and raise data literacy across the company.
- Use AI like it's 2026, because it is: if a tool makes you 10x faster or sharper, we want you using it - and teaching the rest of us.
- Raise the bar: question inconsistencies, chase down edge cases, document what you build, and hold everyone (including yourself) to a high standard of accuracy.
Requirements:
- 2+ years in analytics, analytics engineering, or BI - ideally in a fast-moving environment (ecommerce, consumer apps, growth-stage tech).
- Strong SQL. CTEs, window functions, complex joins, query optimisation. You can look at a slow query and figure out why it's slow.
- Data engineering instincts. You've built or maintained pipelines, thought about schemas, written tests, and genuinely care about data reliability. dbt experience is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with a modern stack. Ideally BigQuery, Looker, Airbyte, and Statsig - but we care about fundamentals over tool-logo matching. Equivalent experience transfers.
- Commercial brain. You read a chart and your next thought is "what does this mean for the business?" You push back on vanity metrics.
- Ownership, for real. You notice something is off and fix it without being asked. You proactively follow through. You ship.
- AI-native mindset. You're already using AI tools to accelerate your work, and curious about where to push further.
- Fluent English, written and spoken.
