About our client
Our client operates within a critical infrastructure environment where security, stability and uptime are non-negotiable. They manage complex, live systems across cloud, network and on-prem platforms, with a strong focus on practical, real-world security outcomes rather than theory.
This is a business that values hands-on expertise — where engineers are trusted to solve problems properly and contribute to meaningful improvements across their environment.
About the role
This is a highly hands-on role for a security-focused engineer who is comfortable operating in live, fast-paced environments.
You’ll act as a key SME across security operations, working across Windows, Linux, networking and cloud platforms. The role blends detection/response with practical engineering — from platform hardening and identity controls through to troubleshooting complex incidents.
Key areas of focus include:
- Acting as the go-to SME across security and operations for Windows, Linux and cloud environments
- Supporting platform hardening, patching and security standards across systems
- Handling BAU operations and stepping into incidents when things go wrong
- Troubleshooting network issues end-to-end — from connectivity through to security and identity-related problems
- Administering and securing Linux environments (access control, patching, troubleshooting)
- Supporting Microsoft GSA configurations and policy enforcement
- Managing Azure tenants with a focus on security posture and operational stability
- Working closely with infrastructure, network and security teams to resolve root causes — not just surface issues
- Contributing to documentation and continuous improvement of operational practices
This is a role for someone who enjoys being in the detail and solving real problems in production environments.
The successful candidate
You’re a hands-on operator who thrives in environments where things don’t always go to plan — and you’re comfortable working through that.
You’ll bring:
- Strong experience in high-paced, real-world operational environments
- Solid Linux administration skills, with a security focus
- Background in security operations / support (as opposed to purely project-based work)
- Strong networking fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot across layers
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft GSA
- Experience managing and supporting Azure environments
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, particularly Conditional Access and identity controls
In addition, you’ll be:
- Comfortable handling incidents, escalations and complex troubleshooting
- Solutions-focused, with a bias toward fixing root causes
- Able to collaborate effectively across infrastructure, network and security teams
- Practical in your approach — able to balance security, usability and operational needs
Nice to have:
- Exposure to Cisco security tools (WSA / ESA, WAF)
- Experience in critical infrastructure environments
- Familiarity with Zero Trust principles
What’s on offer?
- Initial 6+ month contract with strong extension potential
- Competitive day rate ($450–$500 depending on experience)
- Opportunity to work in a critical infrastructure environment where the work genuinely matters
- Broad exposure across security, cloud, network and infrastructure domains
- A capable, no-nonsense team that values practical expertise
- Strong work-life balance — not a burn-out culture
- A role where your input is trusted and has a real impact
