Summary
At Apple, we are committed to developing best-in-class mobile devices that deliver an uncompromised customer experience while meeting demanding performance and efficiency targets. Achieving this requires validation methodologies that match the sophistication of the technology itself, combining rigorous RF engineering with modern software development practices. RF validation has evolved into a software-intensive discipline where automation, data analysis, and machine learning are becoming essential to how we characterise and optimise complex cellular systems.
We are seeking an RF System Validation Engineer to join a team developing cellular modems for Apple's mobile devices. You will be responsible for the validation and optimisation of the receiver embedded in the cellular RF sub-system across different state-of-the-art mobile products. Your responsibility will cover all cellular radio access technologies, including terrestrial and non-terrestrial communication. Your work will require intensive collaboration with various development and productisation teams across the world.
We are looking for an experienced technical expert who combines strong RF fundamentals with software engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable designing RF measurement strategies and developing scalable automation frameworks, and is motivated to apply data-driven methods—including machine learning—to solve complex validation challenges.
Description
In cellular modem development, the RF system is developed, characterised, and optimised before integration into different products. As an RF System Validation Engineer, you will have wide-ranging responsibilities throughout the complete development cycle. This begins with defining the test scope, planning and developing test cases, which are then used to characterise and optimise the RF system. You will own regression tests that monitor achieved performance during the entire development and productisation phase. Increasingly, this work requires strong software engineering skills—developing automation frameworks, building data analysis pipelines, and applying machine learning techniques to extract insights from large validation datasets. Your competence and dedication are required to solve complex functional and performance issues reported from product testing, all the way until product launch. Your collaboration skills will enable you to overcome technical challenges that require coordination with different teams located across the world.
Responsibilities
At Apple, we believe accessibility is a fundamental human right. You’ll find that idea reflected in everything here — in our culture, our benefits and our digital tools. By welcoming as many perspectives as possible, we help you build a career where you feel like you belong.

Responsibilities
- Your role will include but not be limited to the following tasks:
- Definition and planning of the test scope, a thorough study and excellent understanding of the system specifications in order to identify the most relevant and challenging system use-cases.
- Development of scalable Python-based test automation frameworks with proper version control, code review processes, and CI/CD integration.
- Implementation of tests requiring equally strong RF, hardware, and software competences, with meaningful regression campaigns providing comprehensive coverage and efficient execution time.
- Application of data analysis and, where applicable, machine learning techniques to characterise performance, detect anomalies, and predict system behaviour.
- Maintenance of quality gates with continuous expansion of coverage to address all encountered functional or performance specification failures.
- Characterisation and optimisation of downlink system performance following defined automation workflows to manage the multi-dimensional solution space.
- Debugging of functional or performance issues requiring strong RF expertise with understanding of how RF parameters influence system behaviour.
- Track the status and progress of project execution by defining metrics with well-defined verdicts.
- Collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines (System Engineering, Hardware, Firmware, and Software development teams) to drive RF-related problems to resolution.
- Contribution to virtual prototyping efforts to ensure product validation readiness at first hardware availability.
- Professional experience in RF receiver validation and optimisation, complemented with educational background in RF technology.
- Excellent understanding of analog and digital RF receiver implementations, along with the key performance indicators of an RF receiver.
- Deep understanding of RF fundamentals and RF measurement techniques.
- Experience with state-of-the-art RF measurement instruments and their programmatic automation.
- Sound knowledge of cellular 3GPP (2G/3G/4G/5G) RF standards.
- Strong Python programming skills with experience developing maintainable, version-controlled automation frameworks.
- Proficiency with Git workflows including branching strategies, merge/rebase operations, and code review processes.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation, including build systems, testing frameworks, and deployment workflows.
- Experience designing test automation that scales across large test suites and multiple hardware configurations.
- Proven cross-functional collaboration experience involving multiple teams and disciplines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to accept diverse challenges.
- Experience in characterising and debugging RF cellular systems and components, including systematic root-causing abilities.
- Experience applying machine learning techniques to engineering problems such as anomaly detection, predictive modelling, or regression analysis.
- Familiarity with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and their application to engineering workflows
- Experience with large-scale data analysis and statistical methods.
- Experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar) for automated test execution.
- Skilled in post-processing, statistical analysis, and visualisation of data in tools such as Tableau.
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Senior engineers with depth in RF system design, automation architecture, or applied ML are strongly encouraged to apply.
- The minimum salary pursuant to the CBA amounts to EUR 60,785 gross per year for full-time employment. Actual salaries are oriented at current market salaries and take your qualifications and experience into account.
