The Government of Alberta is seeking a Data Product Analyst / Data Analyst to support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) program. This role is responsible for building and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-quality data pipelines and analytics-ready datasets using Microsoft Azure technologies.
The successful candidate will help modernize legacy systems into a unified data platform supporting regulatory, environmental, and compliance reporting across ministries.
- Design and build scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics
- Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and integration workflows
- Manage Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 environments
- Integrate data from multiple sources including ServiceNow, APIs, and geospatial systems
- Build data models, semantic layers, and analytics-ready datasets
- Develop ETL/ELT workflows using Python and SQL
- Design and expose secure APIs using Azure API Management
- Implement data governance, metadata management, and data lineage tracking
- Ensure compliance with FOIP, privacy, and security standards
- Monitor and optimize data pipelines for performance and reliability
- Use AI-assisted tools for coding, automation, and documentation
- Support reporting, analytics, and machine learning readiness
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science, IT, Data, or related field
- 3+ years experience with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, workflows, notebooks, and cluster management
- 3+ years experience designing analytics-ready data platforms (Power BI, Synapse, data marts, semantic layers)
- 2+ years experience in data governance, metadata management, and security in Databricks environments
- 4+ years experience using Git/GitHub for version control and collaborative development
- 3+ years experience with Azure infrastructure (Storage, SQL, Synapse, authentication, Managed Identities)
- 5+ years experience in Python and SQL for data engineering (ETL/ELT workflows)
- 1+ year experience using AI tools for code generation, automation, or data analysis
- 6+ years experience in data requirement analysis and transformation logic
- 6+ years experience with Microsoft SQL Server (design, optimization, administration)
- 2+ years experience with Microsoft Fabric or Synapse advanced features
- 1+ year experience in Government of Alberta or public sector environments
- 2+ years experience with ETL tools such as SSIS or Talend
- 3+ years experience designing RESTful APIs
- 5+ years experience working in cross-functional Agile teams
- Experience integrating ServiceNow with Azure data platforms
- Experience with messaging systems (Azure Service Bus, Kafka, ActiveMQ)
