We're an award-winning company looking for a Senior AI Engineer who can take a business problem and turn it into typed, tested production code.

Welcome to Nordea Life & Pension Finland. We are a solvent Finnish life insurance company and part of the Nordea Group, but we are not Nordea Bank’s everyday banking business. Our focus is on life insurance, savings and pension-related products, and while Nordea Bank acts as an important distribution channel and agent for several of our products, Nordea Life & Pension has its own business domain, products and dedicated IT organisation.

About This Opportunity

Nordea Life & Pension Finland combines the strengths of a specialised insurance company with the backing of a large financial group. Now we focus on building our AI capability over maintaining a legacy. You'll join alongside data scientists, developers, and MLOps. Technical ownership, including architecture, standards and engineering direction, belongs to the senior engineers we're bringing in. You'll have real influence on how this team operates as it grows.

What you’ll be doing:

• Design and deliver AI solutions end-to-end: from requirements to production, leveraging LLMs, agent architectures, and API integrations
• Own technical and architecture decisions within your domain
• Evaluate solutions for accuracy, explainability, bias, cost, and reliability under real conditions
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and developers
• Contribute to MLOps practices that keep our solutions reliable and scalable
  
  

Our stack is Python (typed, tested, linted - we use pytest, mypy, and ruff), SQL, AWS, Docker, Terraform, and Git. We prefer open-source and deploy in both cloud and on-premises environments. We treat AI code like production software because that's what it is. Solutions are reviewed before they ship, deployed through CI/CD, and built with maintenance in mind from day one.

This role is located in our Helsinki (Kaisaniemi). Ideal starting month is as soon as possible.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience building AI solutions that run in production and are relied upon by real users
• Strong Python: typed, tested, maintainable. Pytest, mypy, and ruff are part of your workflow
• Experience with LLM-based applications in production: RAG, agents, or API integrations
• Ability to evaluate AI solutions critically: bias, explainability, uncertainty
• Working knowledge of AWS (or equivalent cloud) and Docker
• Comfort with code review and working in a shared codebase
• Working proficiency in Finnish and English
• Master’s or PhD in a related field
  
  

It would be beneficial if you know/have/can:

• LLM finetuning or self-hosting open-source models
• Agent frameworks (OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph, Google ADK)
• Kubernetes or infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
• Background in insurance, financial services, or other regulated domains
• Awareness of data privacy, GDPR, security, and ethical considerations in AI workloads
