Are you experienced in interpreting and making decisions under right to information and privacy legislation, or other statutory decision making frameworks? If so, the Office of the Information Commissioner invites you to express your interest in our continuous applicant pool for upcoming temporary opportunities for Review Officers. As a Review Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing external review applications and supporting delegated decision-makers in conducting merit reviews under the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009. This is your opportunity to contribute to the promotion of transparency and accountability in Queensland. We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented applicants for temporary full-time or part-time vacancies up to 12 months, as they become available.

The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) plays an important role in Queensland's integrity framework and is an independent statutory body that reports to Parliament. We have statutory functions and powers under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) to uphold greater and easier access to information held by government agencies, assisting agencies to understand their obligations under the RTI and IP Acts, and use our regulatory powers to improve compliance.

As a Review Officer, you will manage the day-to-day handling of external reviews in compliance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), including engaging with stakeholders to gather information, provide advice, and facilitate resolution. This includes identifying and analysing factual and legal issues, conduct statutory interpretation and research, and brief decision-makers on review directions. You will prepare clear, plain English draft decisions and correspondence, collaborate with colleagues to support organisational goals, and contribute to knowledge management resources.
