About the Role

Our client, a leading company in the transportation sector, is looking for a Senior DevSecOps Engineer to join a team responsible for the development and operation of complex mission-critical real-time systems.

You will be part of a DevSecOps team focused on automating the software delivery lifecycle while ensuring security is embedded throughout the entire process. This role combines infrastructure automation, cybersecurity, deployment management, and operational support in a highly technical environment.

Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid)

Contract Type: Long-term freelance assignment

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and document automated deployment solutions for software, operating systems, and supporting tools.
• Develop and maintain deployment automation processes and monitoring capabilities.
• Participate in production deployments, updates, and patching activities in collaboration with operations teams.
• Provide support during rollouts and gather feedback to continuously improve deployment processes.
• Monitor security vulnerabilities and contribute to cybersecurity-related initiatives.
• Manage patching activities across development and production environments.
• Deploy, maintain, and support development environments.
• Evaluate, test, document, and implement new technologies to enhance the DevSecOps toolchain.
• Provide second-line support for software applications and IT infrastructure.
• Occasionally assist with installation and assembly of IT equipment in technical environments.
• Contribute to operational activities during go-live and hypercare periods, including occasional night and weekend interventions.
• Identify security risks and recommend mitigation measures.

Profile

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in Linux environments (CentOS, Red Hat, Fedora).
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and technical security controls.
• Good understanding of software development practices.
• Good knowledge of networking technologies, including routers, switches, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Experience with deployment and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, or similar.
• Basic knowledge of VMware ESXi, vCenter, or equivalent virtualization technologies.
• Basic experience supporting development tools and IDEs.
• Fluent in English and either French or Dutch.

Nice to Have

• Scripting experience with Python, Bash, or Perl.
• Programming experience with Java, C, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience with Puppet Open Source.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios or Zabbix.
• Knowledge of databases and Git.
• Familiarity with development environments such as IntelliJ, Eclipse, or VS Code.

Experience Required

• Master's degree in a technical field or at least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a DevOps or DevSecOps environment.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in cybersecurity-related activities.
