About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated PHP Symfony Backend Teamlead & Techlead for our Webshop team. This role is ideal for a seasoned backend developer who enjoys taking responsibility and leading a team both technically and professionally. In this position, you will oversee the development and maintenance of hygi.de’s online shop platform, which is used by millions of customers. You will be responsible for guiding your team through complex feature implementations, architecture enhancements, and ensuring high standards of code quality, performance, and stability. As a technical leader, you will collaborate closely with frontend developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to shape the technical strategy, implement best practices, and foster continuous improvement. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of a vital component of hygi.de’s business, while also mentoring team members and driving innovation within an agile environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have several years of professional experience in object-oriented PHP development, with a strong focus on Symfony framework expertise. Proven experience in leading development teams—either technically or disciplinarily—is essential. A solid understanding of modern frontend architectures and the ability to align backend development with frontend needs is highly desirable. Candidates should possess a high standard of quality in code, architecture, and deployment processes, along with excellent communication skills, decision-making ability, and a structured, self-driven work style. Passion for e-commerce, scalable solutions, and modern software architectures is important, as well as a genuine interest in leading and developing teams to achieve their best.

Responsibilities

Technical & Development (Hands-on):

  • Actively participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of hygi.de’s online shop platform.
  • Implement complex features, epics, and technical improvements to enhance platform capabilities.
  • Drive the evolution of the shop architecture, including refactoring efforts and exploring headless commerce approaches.
  • Ensure code quality, system performance, stability, and ease of maintenance through best practices.
  • Lead code reviews, promote coding standards, and ensure adherence to quality benchmarks.
  • Manage deployments and releases responsibly, minimizing downtime and ensuring seamless updates.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.

Teamlead & Tech Lead

  • Provide professional leadership to the entire webshop development team, guiding technical and strategic direction.
  • Disciplinarily manage and support the growth of in-house developers.
  • Coordinate with external developers (freelancers) to ensure project alignment and quality standards.
  • Hold overall responsibility for backend and frontend development efforts related to the webshop.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend teams to optimize architecture, interfaces, and performance.
  • Make key technical decisions regarding system architecture, tools, and development standards.
  • Mentor team members through coaching, regular feedback, and professional development activities.
  • Work in close partnership with the Product Owner, Head of IT, and other departments to align technical strategies with business goals.
  • Continuously improve development processes and quality assurance practices within an agile framework.
