AI Software Engineer

Location: Woerden, Utrecht (50/50 hybrid working model)

Salary: Up to €95,000 (DOE)

An exciting role has opened for an Energy-tech startup based in the Netherlands, building a B2B energy trading platform. We're now continuing the expansion of a high performing engineering team with a Senior AI Engineer, who can take ownership of how AI behaves across the product ecosystem.

The role sits within engineering, but carries a clear mandate: be the technical authority on AI systems, agentic workflows, LLM behaviour, tooling, and AI engineering standards.

The right candidate will:

• Deep hands-on experience building production-grade agentic systems
• Strong backend/software engineering fundamentals (ideally C#, .NET)
• Operational thinking around reliability, observability, security, and evaluation
• The ability to mentor and elevate engineers with varying levels of AI maturity
• Have an interest, prior experience or some sort of affinity in the energy space.
• Not be afraid to have a voice in the team, take ownership and responsibility, whilst having a direct influence on the growth of others (sharing your knowledge and supporting those around you)

Technical skillset:

• Production experience with LLMs and agentic systems
• Strong understanding of tool/skill design, orchestration, prompting, and context management
• Experience with AI evaluation, metrics, observability, and experimentation
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals (APIs, distributed systems, testing, CI/CD)
• Awareness of the fast-moving AI ecosystem and emerging frameworks/models
• A pragmatic engineering mindset focused on reliability and maintainability, not demos

You must be based in the Netherlands already to qualify for this role.
