Lead UX Designer

Recharge
Norway · Full-time · Mid-Senior

We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to join Recharge’s Tech organisation, reporting to the CPTO. In this role, you will work closely across the company to shape clear, reliable and user‑centred experiences – both for our end customers and for colleagues using our internal tools.

Recharge is on a journey to create the charging industry’s best customer experience. A key part of this journey is unifying the end‑to‑end experience across digital services, internal operations and physical charging sites into one cohesive, intuitive and seamless whole. This role plays a central part in that transformation – building new products and services while thoughtfully improving what already exists.

Recharge is a small and fast‑moving company where decisions are typically made close to the problem. You will have real influence, a broad scope, and the opportunity to shape both the experiences we deliver and how we work together as a company.

Key responsibilities

This is a cross‑functional role focused on shaping experiences across the entire Recharge ecosystem, ensuring that customer-facing services, operational tools, partner interactions and physical charging environments work together as one coherent system.

You will work closely with Product and Engineering throughout development, while collaborating with teams such as Operations, Revenue, Customer Service and Site Partners to ensure that customer insight, operational reality and business goals are reflected in the user experience. You’ll be part of an environment where AI and automation are actively explored to solve real user problems - from smarter internal tools to better decision support and insights.

Drive discovery & insight

  • Lead discovery across customer and internal user journeys, combining qualitative research, quantitative insight and hands‑on exploration of real‑world use cases.
  • Identify where experiences break down across systems, processes and touchpoints – and translate these insights into clear, actionable design opportunities.
  • Build a strong understanding of operational workflows, constraints and dependencies so solutions work in practice, not just in theory.

UX design across complex user experiences

  • Ensure design initiatives are connected to measurable customer, operational and business outcomes, helping teams understand not only what to build, but why it matters.
  • Take ideas from early concepts through to delivery using modern UX methods and tools, with a strong focus on clarity, accessibility and usability.
  • Shape experiences that connect digital services and physical touchpoints, creating consistency across apps, services and the on‑site charging journey.
  • Lead the evolution of Recharge’s design practice, strengthening UX maturity, customer-centred ways of working and evidence-based decision making across the organisation.

Shape end‑to‑end experiences

  • Define and evolve a long-term experience strategy for Recharge, ensuring that customer needs, operational realities and business objectives come together in one coherent vision.
  • Balance strategic thinking with practical design work, helping teams make good decisions throughout the development process.

Collaborate and influence across the organisation

  • Work closely with teams across Recharge to bring together customer insight, operational reality, business goals and technical possibilities.
  • Create alignment around what great experiences look like, how they support Recharge’s strategy, and how success should be measured over time.
  • Contribute to a culture where design has real influence, with the freedom to shape better ways of working, strengthen UX maturity and raise the quality of what we deliver.

Success factors

  • Senior‑level experience (around 5+ years) in UX design
  • Experience designing for both external users and internal tools or workflows
  • Ability to take ownership of UX from discovery to delivery, while collaborating closely with others
  • Comfort working in technically constrained, system‑heavy environments
  • Strong skills in interaction design, information architecture, prototyping and systems thinking
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineers and product managers
  • Confidence communicating UX decisions in technical, operational and product contexts
  • A pragmatic mindset, focused on real impact rather than visual polish alone
  • Experience with products or services that combine digital interfaces and physical environments (e.g. on‑site services, hardware‑adjacent products or operational systems)
