Associate Software Engineer - Gameplay

What You’ll Do

You will contribute to building engaging, polished gameplay experiences by designing, implementing, and improving gameplay systems. This role is hands-on with development and collaboration across disciplines.

  • Design, implement, improve, and maintain gameplay systems (combat, abilities, AI, UI, quests, etc.)
  • Implement robust, performant C++ code that integrates with game engines and tools
  • Work closely with game designers, artists, and engineers to iterate features to a high level of polish
  • Debug, profile, and optimize gameplay code to meet performance targets
  • Build and maintain development tools that support designers and content creators
  • Act as a collaborative engineering ambassador across cross-functional teams
  • Champion a “Gameplay First” mindset that prioritizes player experience


Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years professional software engineering experience (or equivalent academic/work experience)
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and solid understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creating great gameplay experiences
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for a cross-functional team setting
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment (mix of remote and on-site days)


Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience working in cross-functional game teams
  • Familiarity with ARPG/RPG design or the Diablo-style action RPG space
  • Experience developing RPGs, ARPGs, or MMORPGs
  • Hands-on experience with gameplay systems such as quests, narrative tools, UI, AI/pathfinding, combat abilities, or scripting
  • Experience creating and supporting development tools and pipelines
  • Knowledge of C#, Lua, Python, or other scripting languages commonly used in game engines
  • Experience with popular game engines and build/tool chains (experience with Unity, Unreal, or proprietary engines is a plus)

  • This role offers a flexible hybrid work week with a mix of remote and on-site days. Hybrid is the standard arrangement; full-time on-site work is also an option.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Standard base pay range in the U.S.: $30.05 - $55.59 Hourly. Actual pay will depend on factors such as experience, skills, and work location.
  • Eligible employees may also receive incentive compensation and other rewards; incentive compensation is not guaranteed and varies by role and location.
