The Network Engineer L2 provides advanced support for enterprise network infrastructure, handling escalations from L1 engineers, performing complex troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal performance and security of LAN/WAN, wireless, and firewall systems.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Advanced troubleshooting: Resolve escalated issues involving routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Configuration management: Configure and maintain network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.).
- Network monitoring: Use tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios to proactively monitor performance and availability.
- Security enforcement: Implement firewall rules, IDS/IPS policies, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
- Escalation handling: Act as the second line of defense, coordinating with L3 engineers or vendors when required.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of configurations, incidents, and change management.
- Change implementation: Execute approved changes in production environments with minimal downtime.
- Collaboration: Work closely with security, systems, and cloud teams to ensure seamless connectivity.
- Networking expertise: Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and switching concepts.
- Firewall knowledge: Experience with Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, or Fortinet firewalls.
- Wireless networking: Support and troubleshoot enterprise Wi-Fi solutions.
- VPN technologies: Configure and support site-to-site and remote access VPNs.
- Scripting/automation: Basic skills in Python or PowerShell for automating network tasks.
- Problem-solving: Analytical skills to identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
- Communication: Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in networking support or engineering.
- Certifications such as CCNP, Fortinet NSE, or Palo Alto PCNSE are highly desirable.
