The Role's Purpose

You'll design, implement, and maintain the frontend and server-side systems that power the artist experience across both the Redbubble and TeePublic marketplaces, spanning artist onboarding, content upload, review and moderation, artist payments, and tax compliance. These systems form the content supply side of the marketplace, and their quality and reliability directly affects artist acquisition, retention, and the breadth of content available to customers.

You'll collaborate closely with product, design, and cross-functional stakeholders including artist operations, content and licensing, finance, legal, and support, to deliver solutions that meet the needs of artists, customers, and internal teams, in line with Articore's technical vision and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Feature development and platform integration: Design, code, test, and deploy backend services across the artist domain. Lead small-to-medium initiatives that solve complex problems at scale, in line with Articore's Engineering Principles and architecture standards.
• Maintenance and system health: Maintain and uplift existing services, manage tech debt responsibly, and ensure systems are well monitored with up-to-date documentation.
• Delivery collaboration and technical leadership: Participate in technical approach discussions, translate business requirements into spikes and deliverables, and contribute to team ceremonies including standups, planning, retrospectives, and showcases.
• Coaching and people development: Support less experienced engineers in technical development, good engineering practices, and Articore values.
• Innovation and roadmap input: Stay across emerging tools and techniques, and contribute to the team's technology roadmap to support sustainable delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 5+ years of combined backend and frontend engineering experience
• Proficiency in Ruby and/or Go (the Artist team's services span both languages)
• Strong frontend focus and solid Javascript/Typescript and React skills
• Experience with microservices and/or monolith architectures. The team owns a mix and is actively migrating components between them.
• Solid testing and code quality practices, with the ability to work end-to-end on features from technical spike through to deployment.
• Comfort debugging complex production environments and working effectively with legacy code.

Work Environment:

• Hybrid work model, with two - three days on-site presence required.
