Java Backend Developer – Digital Wallet & Payments

Contract: 12 months (subject to extension).

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Salary: Not a constraint for the right candidate!

Experience: 6-8 years.

Hybrid: 2 days Work from Home 3 days Work from Office

Your Profile & DNA:

We are looking for a Java Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain backend services that power digital wallet and payment capabilities. You will work closely with internal development teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing APIs while adhering to engineering, security, and compliance standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based backend services and APIs supporting digital wallet functionality.
• Design and implement payment-related APIs, including card lifecycle operations such as token creation, token deletion, activation, suspension, and status updates.
• Integrate backend services with mobile applications, internal systems, and external payment platforms.
• Ensure secure and scalable service architecture in accordance with banking and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mobile developers, architects, product owners, security teams, and testers.
• Support integration, system, and end-to-end testing activities, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Participate in production readiness activities and provide support during deployments and releases.
• Perform code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including refactoring, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Follow Agile development practices and actively participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Qualification & Experience

• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and enterprise backend development.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of API security, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
• Experience integrating with external systems and third-party services.
• Knowledge of payment processing, tokenization services, and card management workflows.
• Experience with integration testing and automated testing frameworks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
