Job Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of the organization's voice, data, video, and wireless network infrastructure. This role designs, implements, maintains, and supports network, server, and telecommunications systems, troubleshoots technical issues, and collaborates with IT teams to deliver reliable, secure technology solutions.
Key Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, wireless, internet/intranet, VoIP, and network security systems.
- Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and support network hardware, software, firewalls, backups, and communication systems to ensure reliable performance and security.
- Administer servers, operating systems, databases, and data transfer processes while maintaining system integrity and availability.
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop hardware, software, peripherals, and end-user computing environments.
- Provide technical support by responding to help desk requests, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues, and delivering exceptional customer service.
- Develop and maintain network documentation, system configurations, policies, procedures, disaster recovery plans, and technical documentation.
- Evaluate, test, and implement new technologies and infrastructure improvements, including coordinating system deployments and user acceptance testing.
- Collaborate with end users and IT staff to ensure technology solutions meet business needs and service level expectations.
- Participate in after-hours maintenance, upgrades, and on-call support as required.
Job Qualifications
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least five years of relevant experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting network infrastructure, systems, and hardware/software solutions.
- Strong knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, and network routing protocols, including BGP and OSPF.
- Experience with Cisco networking technologies, including Cisco IOS and Cisco VoIP.
- Working knowledge of VPNs, firewalls, Microsoft Active Directory, VMware, Windows operating systems, and asset management systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and research skills, with the ability to evaluate and recommend technology solutions.
- Ability to follow established safety and security procedures while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of information systems.
- Ability to provide remote technical support and travel occasionally for off-site system installations, maintenance, and support.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including prolonged computer use, extended periods of sitting, and lifting and transporting moderately heavy equipment, such as computers and peripherals.
