About Oper
Oper, a European Fintech company, is a leader in cloud-based digital mortgage software. We provide personalized journeys for borrowers and lenders. Oper's technology streamlines the mortgage application process, eliminates paperwork, and increases transparency.
The fastest growing part of our business is Herman, our AI agent for mortgage origination. Herman reads documents, checks them, and works a credit file the way an analyst would, inside the regulated workflow of a real bank. It runs on sovereign EU infrastructure, because our clients cannot send mortgage data anywhere else. Phase by phase, it automates more of the origination process: first employed borrowers, then the self-employed, and onward. This is not a chatbot bolted onto old software. It is agentic software doing real work in a regulated environment.
A passionate and engaging team of around 30 stellar Fintech operators works vigorously to transform European mortgages by enhancing efficiency and alleviating borrower anxiety. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners and Motive Ventures, we have raised EUR 14 million, placing Oper at the forefront of revolutionizing mortgages in Europe. Oper is headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium.
Now, we're looking for an AI-Augmented DevOps Engineer to join our Engineering team and keep the infrastructure behind Herman fast, reliable, and secure as we scale across Europe.
Your Mission
You'll own and evolve the cloud infrastructure that Herman and our SaaS product run on. This is a hands-on role spanning infrastructure, CI/CD, and platform reliability in a regulated, security-first environment. You'll build and maintain the pipelines, clusters, and infrastructure-as-code that let our engineers ship quickly and safely, on sovereign EU infrastructure where mortgage data has to stay put. Just as importantly, you'll be the person developers and non-developers turn to when something needs debugging, deploying, or unblocking. You make the rest of the team faster. You'll join a small, senior DevOps team reporting directly to the CTO, with the room and the mandate to lead: you set the direction for how the platform is built and run, and grow into the technical anchor for infrastructure at Oper as we scale.
Your Responsibilities
What you'll do
- Manage our infrastructure platform through Terraform
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or GitHub) that make shipping fast, repeatable, and safe.
- Run our Kubernetes workloads, managing deployments through GitOps with Argo CD.
- Manage cloud infrastructure as code with Terraform, primarily on Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud.
- Support developers and non-developers alike: provide hands-on debugging help, unblock deployments, and make the platform easy to work with.
- Own security and compliance in the platform. Build infrastructure that stays audit-ready and meets the demands of a regulated fintech, including ISO 27001 and NIST.
- Manage secrets, identities, and certificates securely across the platform, keeping every tenant properly isolated.
- Participate in on-call duties to ensure availability of the system during office hours.
Work AI-native
Building agentic software is what we do, and we expect you to operate your platform the same way: AI-first.
- Use AI agents to generate the bulk of your infrastructure code, pipeline configuration, and scripts under your direction, while you own the architecture, the review, and the quality. We measure your impact in shipped, reliable infrastructure, not hand-typed lines.
- Build agentic workflows that do real platform work: scaffolding Terraform modules from a spec, drafting and debugging pipeline configs, generating runbooks, and triaging incidents.
- Use modern AI tooling as the default way you build, configure, and debug, not as an occasional helper.
- Aim for a delivery cadence a non-AI-native engineer simply cannot match, and help us raise the bar on what an AI-native platform function looks like at Oper.
Your Profile
What you'll bring
- 4+ years of DevOps or platform engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated ownership of production infrastructure.
- Strong cloud experience, primarily on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), our main platform. In practice you'll also touch AWS, Azure, and IBM Cloud, so multi-cloud comfort is a real plus.
- Experience with managing Kubernetes, Terraform, and Argo CD.
- Proficient with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab or GitHub.
- Solid scripting skills, ideally Python; Bash or Typescript also welcome.
- Comfortable collaborating closely with developers and non-developers, providing support and guidance.
- Security and compliance awareness, given our regulated fintech environment.
- You are AI-native: agents already write most of your code and you build agentic workflows to multiply your output. You can name the tools, the workflows, and the concrete recent projects where AI gave you real leverage.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Creative and analytical mindset.
- Ambition to learn, experiment, and grow while staying humble and open-minded.
- Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g. Dutch, German) are a plus.
- Experience in a relevant industry (financial services) and thriving in a scale-up environment are a plus.
Location & Setup

- Hybrid setup with 2-3 days per week in our Antwerp office
- Working in CET hours
- Reporting to the CTO

- Participation in limited on-call duties
