The Opportunity

My client based in Dublin that is seeking an experienced Python Developer to join its growing technology team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of scalable applications, APIs and backend services while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design and development through to deployment and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop and maintain robust Python applications and backend services.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Develop clean, efficient and maintainable code following software engineering best practices.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing and deployment.
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve software issues in production and development environments.

System Design & Integration

• Design scalable application architectures and integrate with third-party APIs and internal systems.
• Develop database solutions and optimise application performance.
• Work with cloud-based infrastructure to deploy and support applications.
• Ensure applications are secure, reliable and highly available.

Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers and Software Developers to deliver business requirements.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives.
• Conduct peer code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Produce technical documentation where required.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, scalability and reliability.
• Contribute to automation initiatives and CI/CD pipelines.
• Stay current with emerging Python frameworks and development technologies.
• Support continuous improvement across the engineering team.

Skills & Experience

• 3+ years' commercial experience developing applications using Python.
• Strong knowledge of Python and object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience with web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQL Server.
• Experience working with Git and version control systems.
• Familiarity with Linux development environments.
• Experience with unit testing and automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and messaging technologies.
• Exposure to NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis.
• Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas or NumPy.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar).
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform is advantageous.
