Senior Software Engineer | Android SDK / Sensors | Cork, IRL

A world-renowned Semiconductor Giant is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Android) – Sensors to join its expanding team in Cork, Ireland.

This role offers hands-on exposure to advanced sensor technologies used in smartphones, IoT devices, wearables, smart glasses, and other consumer electronics. The position spans the full product lifecycle—from research and development through validation and commercial deployment.

Please note this role will require 5 days per week onsite in the Cork office.

Job Overview

The position is technology-focused and involves participation in a broad range of sensor systems engineering activities. Software development opportunities are broad, covering Android application development, scripting, internal tool development, and contributions to data processing pipelines, whilst also including opportunities for hands-on field work and data collection activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Android Development: Designing, developing, and testing Android applications for sensor data collection and feature demonstration.
• Cross-Platform Tooling: Designing, implementing, and testing cross-platform desktop tools with user interfaces (Windows and Linux) that interact with Android devices using Java, Kotlin, Python, C++, .NET, and C#.
• Prototype Platforms: Developing software on prototype and reference platforms covering mobile devices, wearables, and smart-glasses form factors.
• Data Pipelines: Contributing to the design and evolution of end-to-end data processing pipelines, as well as monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimising data workflows in production environments.
• Collaboration & Support: Partnering with global, cross-functional teams to support the development and commercialisation of sensor algorithms. Supporting internal data collection campaigns and resolving application issues.
• Requirements Note: The role may involve occasional travel, physical or sports-related activities, and handling of equipment with significant weight.

Candidate Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience: 2+ years of software engineering or related work experience.
• Android SDK: Hands-on experience developing Android applications using the Android SDK (preferably with Android Studio).
• Programming Skills: Strong object-oriented programming skills in Java or Kotlin, with a proven ability to deliver production-quality software.
• Systems & Scripting: Proficiency in developing system-level applications and tools in C++ and Python for internal and customer-facing use.
• Tools: Fluency with Git and GitHub.
• Prototyping: Ability to develop customer-facing demo and test applications, rapid prototyping, and delivering clear user experiences for non-engineering audiences.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal English proficiency. Detail-oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced global team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with enterprise deployment and device management concepts (Android Enterprise, MDM, MAM, Intune).
• Previous experience with React Native, Android Wear / Wear OS, and Android XR.
• Experience developing desktop applications with graphical user interfaces (GUIs) in a multi-OS environment (Linux and Windows).
