Senior Projectmanager / Teamleader Energy Markets & Systems

TNO
Netherlands · Full-time · Mid-Senior

What will be your role?

Introduction

The Techno Economic Energy Transition Studies (TES) research group works with an international multidisciplinary team of social scientists, engineers, and economists on techno-economic policy issues within the energy transition. Its research focuses on the technological possibilities and impossibilities of changes in the energy system and the economic feasibility and infeasibility of innovations. This knowledge is used to calculate long-term scenarios to underpin the impact of policy choices at an early stage. Are you ready to accelerate the energy and materials transition dramatically and build a fully circular economy? Join TNO as a Project Manager combined with the role of Team Leader in Amsterdam!

The TES research group consists of about 50 professionals with backgrounds in econometrics, chemistry, physics, economics, energy science & technology, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. We are looking for a Senior Project Manager and Team Leader for the Energy Markets & Systems expertise team.

The team focuses on issues of regulation in the energy market. For example, its members calculate how the incorporation of green hydrogen or offshore wind will affect prices or to what extent energy demand management affects the stress on energy infrastructure. Modellers work on the numerical analyses and underpinnings in various complex energy market models. Based on this knowledge, policy recommendations are issued regarding the development of this complex energy market and the extent to which managing the market with policy instruments is desirable.

What will be your role?

As Team Leader, you will support the research manager in all aspects of your department, from strategy, content, and quality to operations, planning, and execution. You will lead the Energy Markets & Systems expertise team. In addition, as Project Manager, you will be responsible for one or more projects.

Your agenda will include development meetings, team meetings, project progress updates, interviews, and onboarding new employees. You will also handle capacity planning, review offers and reports, and continuously improve processes within the department. You will help your team by connecting internally with other areas of expertise and working together to further build knowledge and market development.

What makes TNO unique is that, as a Team Leader, you are very close to your employees. You understand (at a high level) what they are working on and create the ideal conditions for them to do their work as well as possible.

What We Expect From You

As a Team Leader, you will truly connect with your employees and create an inspiring work environment where innovation, social value, and collegiality go hand in hand. Your drive? To help your team grow and collectively increase the impact on the energy and material transition. You recognize, appreciate, and encourage everyone’s talents. You also regularly reflect on yourself because the better you know yourself, the better you can engage with others. You handle resistance or setbacks well and are not afraid to make decisions when necessary. For this, it is important that you don’t get lost in the details but are able to organize and delegate effectively. You will be in the Amsterdam office at least three days a week to facilitate contact with the department and maintain visibility.
