Role: Network Engineer

Location: Fully Remote (Trialling a 4 day working week)

Salary: Up to £55,384 + Benefits

The position:

The role is responsible for delivering secure and resilient network services including connectivity to our sites, ensuring our staff, volunteers, supporters, and our service users enjoy a positive and consistent experience whether working remotely, at home, from an International office, or a site in the UK.

The role will help the business in use cutting-edge technologies to building new foundations for future growth and solve challenges as we are focused upon our mission of reducing our cost to serve and improving our user experience, resilience, and security.

  • Build, configure, administer, and manage the network devices, services, and components, including firmware and any commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS) and open-source packages to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets.
  • Apply technical and specialist knowledge and skills through collaboration and creativity to support the successful delivery of programmes, projects, and other sanctioned initiatives.
  • Perform technical support activities and carry out agreed or routine maintenance and administration tasks applying specialist knowledge and modern device management principles aligned to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements including security, compliance, and resilience requirements Implement changes based on Requests for Change (RFC) adhering to the change management policy and process.
  • Conduct tests to verify the effectiveness of changes, the user experience is not adversely impacted, and rollback plans are in place that are capable of restoring services to their previous state should the change need to be reverted

Technical Skills:

  • Maintains a current knowledge of networking best-practice, including SD-WAN, Zero-Trust networks, and cloud services.
  • Strong product knowledge of Cisco and Meraki network devices and services, including firewalls, routers, and switches.
  • Knowledge of networking and network services within cloud environments, such as how and when to implement Azure
  • Network Security Groups (NSGs) and Application Security Groups (ASGs).
  • Demonstrated ability to assess user needs and deliver continuously improvement of end-user services and applications.
  • Ability to track and improve meaningful user experience metrics using technologies such as PRTG and SolarWinds.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and lead presentations.
  • Good awareness of commercial licensing agreements, including Cisco and Meraki licencing.
  • Awareness of authentication protocols and technologies, such as SAML, Radius, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Authenticator, and OneLogin.
