Job Title: Mid-Senior Rust Developer (Big Data, Cryptography)

Location: 100% Remote

Employment Type: Contract / Part-time

About the Role

We are seeking a Mid-Senior Rust Developer with a strong background in systems programming and a keen interest in cryptography. In this role, you will be an integral part of a cross-functional team responsible for building and optimizing a large-scale data management platform. You will collaborate closely with cryptographers to ensure secure data handling and with front-end developers to integrate robust APIs that power our data-driven applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design & Development
• Develop high-performance, reliable services and libraries in Rust for large-scale data ingestion, processing, and analysis.
• Implement cryptographic features in collaboration with cryptography experts, ensuring security best practices.
• Collaboration & Integration
• Work closely with front-end teams to design and integrate RESTful or gRPC APIs that meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
• Collaborate with DevOps, data engineers, and QA to streamline continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and testing processes.
• Performance & Optimization
• Profile and optimize Rust services for memory usage, concurrency, and latency to handle large, real-time data streams efficiently.
• Introduce improvements to system design for fault tolerance and horizontal scalability.
• Research & Innovation
• Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge libraries, frameworks, and tools from the Rust ecosystem to advance project goals.
• Stay informed on modern cryptographic techniques, ensuring secure data encryption, hashing, and key management within the platform.

Must-Haves

• 3-5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years working with Rust in a production environment.
• Solid understanding of systems programming concepts (memory management, concurrency, multithreading, low-level performance).
• Practical experience with cryptography or a strong desire to learn and work closely with cryptographic systems.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and building scalable services.
• Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative workflows (pull requests, code reviews).

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, or equivalent) and real-time data processing.
• Familiarity with front-end integration (React, Vue, or Angular) from a backend perspective.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Previous work with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving abilities, with an analytical mindset for complex systems.
• Good communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including cryptographers and front-end developers.
• Self-driven with the ability to take ownership of features and drive them from concept to production.
