Senior Telco Engineer, Edge

Job Description

Edge is a fast-growing business unit within SUSE that combines Business Critical Linux and Enterprise Container Management technologies and solutions to address business opportunities within edge compute scenarios.

As a Senior Telco Engineer for SUSE's Edge offering, you will be joining a growing team responsible for leading SUSE's strategic investment to be the open-source edge infrastructure company. SUSE's edge infrastructure platform provides retail, automotive, manufacturing, industrial, telco and other edge market segments with a mission-critical environment for deploying applications on remote edge devices. Your engineering expertise and leadership will assist in creating infrastructure that is rich enough to host complex applications but flexible enough to scale from hundreds to millions of instances and be deployed across different vertical edge market segments.

The role will involve designing, developing, analyzing, troubleshooting and debugging systems, software and solutions as part of the Edge team, with a particular focus on Telco use-cases. Requires a broad knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes and related technologies, and relevant industry experience.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience of infrastructure and application orchestration, knowledge of networking and distributed applications, and previous exposure to large-scale software projects, methodologies and tools.

Responsibilities

• Development and technical leadership of complex products, systems, software, and technology within the Edge Business Unit.
• Designing, implementing and debugging complex software solutions spanning multiple projects and upstream communities.
• Identifies and evaluates new technologies, innovations, and helps drive partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; creates plans for integration and update into architecture.
• Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards; integrates suggestions, updates, and innovations into overall architecture.
• Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to influence decisions of business leadership, adjacent teams, upstream communities and development partners.
• Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members to set an example of engineering design innovation and excellence.
  
  

Education And Experience Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
• Typically 10+ years experience.
  
  

Knowledge And Skills

• Proven experience delivering large-scale software projects, preferably including telco-industry infrastructure and/or workloads
• Deep networking experience, including NFV, techniques for network acceleration and VM/Container based architectures for telco network workloads.
• Prior experience with Kubernetes, Golang, Cluster API and related projects is an advantage
• Broad experience with Linux operating system development, automation and performance tuning
• History of innovation with examples of developing new technologies, software architecture and designs
• Previous experience of open-source software development and community engagement/leadership is desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options engaging with multiple teams and stakeholders.
